May be I'm latching onto the wrong tread since this is focused on todays PC but in response to the QB issue above I see no way in hell, IMHO, this new regime is going forward with Geno as the "de facto" QB starter for the Jets. I can not imagine one scenario where this would be the case. These folks know way too much football to let this situation fester another year without a back up plan or two..

I strongly believe that we will both sign a veteran, and draft a QB.

Now, the pickings are slim out there in free agency and no matter who we pick, Gannon, Cutler, Moore, Fitz, Hoyer, you name it, half of this board will be unhappy with the choice, but non the less a vet will be with us and his name is not M. Vick. Competition will indeed be a true competition and not a façade. Geno will have to come out swinging big time to regain the starting position. He has to demonstrate to the CS both the ability to win games and the maturity not to loose them by his bonehead plays.

Beyond that the draft will garnish us another QB, and realistically we might continue to draft a QB next year, and the next, till we hit gold. If MM is there at six we should strike and move on. He will need a year of holding the clip board but for a team that does not have a QB to rally behind at this point the draft choice is crystal clear, if you think he is the answer you draft him and count your blessings. Draft picks are great to have but without a top tier QB we will continue to wonder in the desert of mediocrity.
Having said that we have too many other needs to consider trading up for either Winston or MM, low probability of that, but if one is still there you pull the plug with 50 seconds to spare on the clock.

If both QB are gone I still think they might take a shot with the 2nd or 3rd pick for someone with potential.

I believe we will see far more than Geno behind center this pre season.

The days of virtual QB competition during training camp and pre season should be officially over.

I am saying qb scenario. would you agree with me and see what gailey can do with geno and a vet and let's see who wins the battle. by no means do I want the job handed to geno. I think if he realizes the job is his he wont take it as serious and get a little to cocky. if moore, hoyer, fitz ect is right there to step in it might push him

I just watched the press conference, and these two passed the sniff test. I must say, I really get the feeling that these 2 guys have a chemistry, and they both appear to be very intelligent. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next few months plays out like.

but yes, back to the topic I am glad we got bowles and mac. I think both will put the right people in place. I like bowles a little more than Quinn for the fact that bowles can use our foundation we have on defense add to it and develop it. Quinn might have had a harder time switching us to a 4-3 or switching his style to a 3-4..

Same. It was either a nervous tick or he has a medical disorder. I've heard other people with similar inflections in their voices.

If both Qb's are off the board, and the Jets are adverse to trading up, isn't that our only option? Sorry if I come off as condescending because that's not my intent. There just aren't that many options in terms of viable QB's this offseason, so if they don't get MM or JW in the draft your scenario is the most likely. If they don't take either, I don't really want them to draft another QB. Maybe Grayson, but that's only if he slips to the 4th round.

BTW, sorry for hijacking this thread into yet another MM/Draft debate.

In concerns to the thread topic, I am still yet to watch the PC, been working nights so I was fast asleep during it. I plan on watching it at some point this evening if I hit a lull in work. However, it sounds like it was a breath of fresh air judging on the responses in this thread. I look forward to watching it.

I know..let's keep drafting quarterbacks, eventually one will stick.
That sounds like a rational and efficient plan/

No, the plan is to draft a talented QB with a high football IQ.

You can't fix stupid and surrounding stupid with talent perpetuates losing.

IMO the problem is with your expectations or wants. Did you really expect them to go into specifics and tip their hands for FA and the draft? That wouldn't have been smart. If you saw the Wolf/Casserly video on the Jets' site, you saw/heard Wolf say that Bowles blew him away with his knowledge of the personnel on the team and that Bowles obviously had done his homework and had a lot of football smarts. That's all we need to know. There's plenty of time following the draft and FA for Bowles to go into specifics. Anything he said now would be extremely premature.

Just because Geno develops doesn't mean that Mariota couldn't be better. In the NFL today it's proven that one needs two quality QBs or you're screwed. If Geno develops and Mariota does as well, the Jets will be in great position for a couple of years then they can trade one of them for a buttload of high draft picks. If you get a chance to draft a guy who could be a franchise QB and pass because you hope the QB you drafted two years ago (who has been awful much of the time) will develop, you're nuts, and if that QB doesn't develop you're screwed, while someone else potentially gets a great QB. I'd love Ray or Cooper as much as anyone, but if the Jets get the chance to draft Mariota, they'd damn well better take it, or we'll be looking at a new GM and HC in snother couple of years.

We do NOT have bigger needs than QB. That's just nuts. QB is THE most important position on the football team. PERIOD. Until you have a quality starter at QB, you need to keep looking for one until you find one. Next year is going to be another shit year for QBs. So if the Jets don't take a QB given the opportunity and Geno shits the bed again, God only knows how long it will be until they get another chance.

The assumption is that every QB drafted is talented.
It's only when they get to a NFL training, their stupidity takes over.

If Winston or Cooper aren't available, I favor trading back and getting more draft picks.
