I think Geno will be the guy. I don't think the Jets are going to pick a QB in the first round.
I do believe they will try to bring a veteran QB to compete with him.
    To me,I like this idea.
I think if the Jets can surround Geno with playmakers at receiver and improve the O-line, I thi nk he'll be successful.
Besides I understand Gailey is a good teacher, who works within a player's strengths.

I'm not all that impressed with the hires, Casserly is a idiot in my book, and both these hires have his finger prints all over them, hope this pans out I can't stomach 2 or 3 more season like the last 4

Good thing I read further cause this is exactly what I was going to say. Mariota needs to sit a year or two, the same way Geno needed to sit a year or two. In Gailey's offense, Geno should be able to produce, but he needs a vet to compete with to get the best out of him. So depth chart should be 1a/1b: Geno, Vet FA; 3rd: Mariota

Not really impressive with little media savvy. That was the big knock on Idzik. I read something that he wasn't available at all with beat writers and didn't return phone calls. They hated him for that. So Mac is going to have to fix that and go deal with some of the vipers even if he hates them, too.

Watching it now, I would say so far it's the most articulate and intelligent I've seen woody present himself...

All mac has to do is field a winning team. If he does he can block every call from every media outlet in the world and no one will care. No one was killing idzic for his media savy after year 1

Look as GM he has to make an effort to work with the press. It's part of the job. A good percentage of the reason Idzik was fired had little to do with incompetency. It was mostly poor communication and almost no PR on his part. Like it or not Mac is going to have to deal with this part of the job. If he wants to go into a shell and just be a personnel guy it isn't going to cut it. Of course you have to win.

Well, I expected more specifics about the team. At the least a general overview. Not an Idzik-like no comment. And that's what we got. Both guys applied for the job so I assume they were prepared for the interview and knew something about the players and the team.

so we are going to use a #6 pick for a 3rd stringer no thanks. ill take shane ray, amri cooper ect. someone who is going to produce and help geno.. I know you are thinking sit mariota to devlop him but what if geno produces very well and he becomes our guy? or what if hoyer, Fitzpatrick, moore, ect is our guy each of them still have plenty of years left possibly then what do we do with mariota? I want them to bring in one of the 3 FA's I mentioned to compete with geno and draft a guy in the 3-5 round for 3rd string.. Draft a playmaker with the 6th pick to make an impact right away

The problem is that Geno is a second round pick, so they probably aren't paying him all that much. The Jets could afford to sit him for a year if that's what they wanted to do. However, Mariota, if taken, will be a high draft choice and will get a lot of money. He will only have four years to prove what he can do. So, for the Jets the financial pressure is enormous to start him right away. That's the way it is for all QB's drafted high. Teams don't have the luxury to let high draft QB's sit and develop for a year or two anymore.

If by some miracle Geno does actually become a good starter, then you can trade Mariota for a decent pick in that scenario. You could probably coax a 2nd-3rd rounder out of someone for him.

Let's be honest though, do you really see Geno becoming that? I didn't think so...

exactly, people want these two to act like rex did when he came into the organization. Why open yourself up to be targeted to the media??? At this point the NY media has nothing bad to say about the two hires and they are unable to poke/make fun/harass them about. A coach and GM do not have to be best buds with the media. Both guys today answered questions respectively and that's all.

What you see how is precisely why in MOST situations the GM and coach need to be hired in tandem. This way things are built from the ground up. If your team is doing lousy enough to fire a GM or coach, then you need to blow it away completely and start from scratch.

I could see Geno doing well under gailey, I could see Fitzpatrick, moore, or hoyer doing well here too. Why waste the time trying to develop someone for years that may never pan out.. at least geno was a second rounder..could you imagine how we would all feel if we took him rd 1 #6... we need to address the major holes. if harvin is gone WR is a major hole. Pace is going to be gone I am sure we need a serious pass rusher for bowles defense to excel. I would say corner but no corner is worthy of #6 this year, we can get cro and another corner in the middle rounds
