Nope. There were very few good questions, honestly, and all answers were pretty rhetorical (though I think that's a good move in this media environment.)

All Bowles would say about our defense is that it would be "hard-nosed" and "tough," etc.

Was overall a boring press confrence, but I didn't expect it to be anything besides the obvious answers.

It looks like a Wake was taking place look at the flowers

that makes sense. usually no specifics discussed in a presser, especially with a new staff who still has a lot of work to do with roster evaluations.

i thought Woody might mention how this new org will be structured though, and where final decision making will be done on a number of things. ie, the draft, the final 53, active roster on game day, etc..

Mac already knows addressing the QB position is a top priority in both short and long term..
that's promising.....but then again any GM would know that stepping into this team.

like being controversial just for the hell of being different?
i don't know....i didn't get that vibe, and don't think Westhoff is an attention hack (like Cimini)..

While i like the people we have brought in, i kind of agree with what Westhoff was saying.
i also need to see more. i don't believe the coaching was our major problem, nor do i believe a simple coaching swap has improved our team.

the key to me is Maccagnan, and what players he can bring in. i think (and hope) he'll be here for the long haul, and provide stability to this team and player evaluation approach.

I watched the entire presser and the aftermath including analysis on SNY which in total lasted 2 hours. My impression: nothing much was said and neither guy was that eloquent. Basically it was boring. One surprise and correct me if I'm wrong: I didn't hear even one question from Manish Mehta. Was he there? Also on his Twitter feed be backtracked on Mac who during the selection process he was shitting on. Now he's saying to give the guy a chance.

I just watched the whole thing, I DVR'd it from Sportscenter. My immpressions:

    1) Maccagnan was very well-spoken, conservative, and he "looks the part". I feel good about him as our GM.
    2) Bowles also made a very good impression on me. Very professional and you can tell he's football smart. Said a lot of intelligent things in terms of philosophy and his football strategy.
    3) Like it or not, Geno Smith is Bowles' guy and our QB of the future, reading between the lines. He said "...if Geno's our guy going forward, we have to get some people around him...that's why I targeted Chan Gailey." Sounds like he hired Chan specifically for his ability to work with struggling QBs like Geno. (he also said "Chan can get the most out of the least players" and cited his work with mediocre QBs Fitzpatrick and Kordell Stewart.)
    4) Maccagnan will work side by side with Bowles, helping him get the players he needs for his schemes and taking his input into consideration. Smart!
He also said he believes the draft is the lifeblood of the team....also smart!

Overall, I'm very happy with our new coach and GM! :)

I disagree 100%. Bowles will do whatever he can to upgrade the QB position. He is smart though. If he ends up stuck with Geno, you want to have someone like Gailey to get the best out of him. No way at all Geno is Bowles' "Guy".

draft a franchise QB - nothing else is going to make any real difference. unfortunately its the hardest thing to achieve and almost entirely down to luck over skill.

I don't know where you go that from, the one advantage Bowles has is that he is in no way vested in Geno and can easily move on but he would have to be an idiot to come on and say "without having ever really looked at this guy I already know he doesn't have a chance and we are going to be looking to trade or draft a new QB"

OK, maybe not "Bowles' guy"....what I should have said is that Bowles is prepared to go into next season with Geno as his starter. He hired Gailey in particular for his work in the past with mediocre QBs; in other words, he hired Gailey with an eye towards working with Geno. I think that was clear from what he said.

Said Bowles: "We understand that if Geno's our guy going forward, we have to get some people around him and do a lot of things better, and Chan is outstanding at that."
    ---
why would he say "if Geno's our guy" unless Geno is his guy? He's kind of suggesting that Geno will be his guy, isn't he?

On the hiring of Gailey: "Chan's been an outstanding coordinator for years," Bowles said. "Pro as well as college football. He can get the most out of the least players that he has. He always gets the most out of them. He's done it with a lot of different quarterbacks ... and he knows how to run the football. He understands complimentary football." --- Seems to me like another reference to Geno when he talks about getting the most out of the least. Of course he will bring in competition, but he seems to view a big part of his job as developing Geno to most likely be his starter going forward.
