You mean like it would be incredulous to imagine the league destroying the spygate evidence?

They continue to exploit loop holes and loose rule language.

    BB deserves a Payton-like suspension.

    Yep.

"So and so" accidentally left the balls in their car overnight.

Due to the cold exposure, the balls were subjected to the harsh New England elements, as many of our hard working new englandera know.

"So and so" was so embarrassed they did this, they did not come forward until he team was under investigation.

We here in New England always think about the team first. So let that be a lesson to you kids.

Goodell: thanks mr Kraft, here's some warm oil for your balls. Can I rub it in??

there are certainly differences between the two, but narrow differences do not a logical argument make. the broader an argument the more logical it is.

and broadly, the two are identical. in both examples a party intentionally breaks a rule, knowing the rule and the repercussion, because they have determined that not breaking the rule is of less benefit than the penalty that will be derived by breaking a rule if caught. just because the rules are different rules, and the acts required to break those rules are different, doesn't negate that the exact same consideration is being made and behavior being performed. again, narrowing an argument to dispute inconsequential differences to the broad position does not negate the broadest, and most logical, similarities.
that's not my logic at all because my argument was not dependent on any value judgement of right, wrong or not a big deal. my argument is simply stating if the NFL doesn't give a shit to impose a deservedly harsh penalty than I don't care whether he cheated or not because it's not a big deal to the NFL. by my logic, I don't give a shit if a player corks a bat or scuffs up a baseball or uses previously banned stickum or, hell, takes amphetimines to improve his speed/awareness/reaction time if MLB doesn't see any of those acts as being worthy of a punishment strong enough to dissuade doing those things. That being said, I think MLB's punishments are pretty fair for those acts.
The NFL has taken harsh punishment against players and coaches on flimsy evidence; if they choose to avoid doing so here than they don't believe it is worth it.

Yes they cheated and deserve whatever the punishment is from the league but under inflated balls had nothing to do with Blount running all over the Colts and that defense looking scared to tackle.
