Agreed. Although I'm not ready to say how good he can or can be as a starting QB. He offers more potential and tools to work with than any free agent QB and probably more than most options in the draft. Plus he could play immediately if he won the starting job. The argument that Tampa would've kept playing if he was any good is very flawed. New regimes often mean new QBs if there isn't an obvious franchise-player at the position; at the very least, they're likely to favor their own acquisitions and select a QB with a certain style of play. Glennon is drop-back passer who doesn't run. McCown is more athletic even at 35. Check Glennon's numbers; they're way superior to Geno's and McCown's 2014. Compared to McCown in 2014, Glennon had a higher completion percentage, more yards per attempt, significantly more yards per game, more TDs given and fewer INTs controlling for time played, a way better TD:INT ratio, fewer sacks and yards lost controlling for time played (interesting for an immboile QB...), put the ball on the ground only twice and lost 0 fumbles, and finally, had a much higher QB rating. He also won the same number of games as McCown despite starting 5 fewer; Glennon's win was on the road against Pittsburgh. So the argument about McCown playing over him as somehow being a sign that he sucks is asinine. In another situation, you obviously play the younger guy who has shown something in the NFL already and offers more future potential, but Tampa with its new regime obviously was looking to get a new franchise QB from perhaps the begininng. If he's available, get this guy to NY.
Yes ... we do. He's shown that he has the potential to be an effective starter in the NFL. In his Rookie season he threw 10 more TD's than INTs. Take a look and see how long its been since a Jet QB did that. His rating so far is in the low 80's. Not great, but again --- better than anything we've seen around here for years. By all means --- Trade for this BEAST.
The Bucs had Vincent Jackson and Evans this year and Glennon didn't put up Flacco or Dalton numbers, so I'd say hthe anaswer is no.
Not sure exactly why Lovey and the Bucs don't like him but they don't. I'd take him over Jameis who I don't think they'll select. Too close to Tallahasee and all of his legal problems. But the Bucs could try and spin that they're interested in him. The Bucs still have McCown who a year ago was considered the top vet FA Qb going into free agency. I'd take McCown over Glennon.
If he's so good why did a 49 year old journeymen play over him and why would they draft his replacement?
As mediocre as his numbers were (10 TDs, 6 INTs, 1400 yards)..those projections over an entire season blow away what we got from Geno Smith and are pretty similar to Flacco and much better than Dalton. Glennon has never gotten a fair shake in Tampa..he had a pretty solid season in 2013 and was looked over for Josh McCown like he's done anything in his career. Maybe all he turns out to be in a career backup..who knows. But when a team is in a position like the Jets are right now I hope they take that chance.
Offer #6 overall to Philly for Foles, two firsts, and whatever else you can get. Or just pull the trigger on Mariota. I am a Glennon fan. He would be an upgrade over Geno, but you would still need to draft somebody. And with our turnstile OL and his lack of mobility, he would get sacked 60 times.
I don't think anybody is crazy about Mike Glennon its more of a matter of what's available.If you don't do your laundry and it comes down to wearing a dirty pair of underwear that you crapped in for some reason or going comando what would you do?
Yeah, if Kelly really wants to get Mariota in Philly, perhaps Foles will be available, and he would be a good hold the fort guy to say the least. And I am still tooting the trade for Cutler horn. But Glennon presents an interesting case. I hear that the "they played McCown over Glennon" argument is not persuasive. They had signed McCown and no doubt thought he would do better than he did, and once you made a move to play the vet Qb on the bigger contract, some teams do not bench such a player that quickly, even if they should. At the right price, and assuming no one better is out there, Glennon sounds like a significant upgrade over Smith.
I watched a few of his games from this season just to get a good look at him. He has the same tendencies that we've complained about from our QB's the last 4 or 5 years. But he does have potential. If the Jets bring him in are we willing to deal with his short comings?
If you trade for Glennon then you're basically committing to him and throwing Geno out to the curb. I can't see carrying 2 developing Qbs who both haven't lit the league on fire at the same time. In that case I keep Geno and bring in a vet. I'm not ready to cut his ass yet. To me for Geno this is his make or break season with the Jets. Let the Bucs make their decision on Glennon. The Jets are in the same predicament with Geno.
Because Lovie Smith made a stupid decision (Which he later reversed). Remember a guy named Bledsoe? He was playing while Brady sat. Whatever the Bucs did is their problem. Because Jameis Winston looks like he'll be a great player and we can't draft him ... But they can. Btw --- I never said he is "so good". I just think he's better than anything out there and better than anything we've had here in years.
I'm on board with this. My first try at bringing in a QB though would be to trade for Foles if it was a situation where we could trade the Mariota pick. Foles is already a pro bowler for Christ sakes. Imagine getting him and a future first in a trade down! I'd definitely want to bring in Glennon otherwise though. He's a serviceable QB which is what we've been starving for.
The first half of the Seattle-Pack game Wilson had Geno-esque stats and a 0 QBR plus 4 picks. The only truly horrendous game Geno had was the Bills game that got him benched. He finished the season with a perfect QBR rating for the Miami game which almost got Philbin fired. So no I'm not ready to cut him loose yet. But he doesn't start either.
Later reversed? I think you meant to say Mclown got hurt so he plugged in Glennon and then "later reversed" back to McCown to end the season. I have nothing against him but lets not act like he's a hot commodity. Kirk Cousins trade value last season was supposedly 2 2's and now he might be worth a 6th.
