I saw that this morning and did a "happy" dance! I don't care what anyone says...our overall drafts for the better part of 20 years have been dog shit. Badway has had his mits in on well over half of that so as the old man says...."Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you!" We are quietly...well...quietly for the NY Jets anyway...having a pretty good off-season! Much like many...I was muddling Chan Gailey's HC'ing with his OC'ing and once I separated the two and accepted he's only coming in as an OC...I became quite pleased with our results. I like the Todd Bowles hire...I'm on board with the Gailey hire... I could care less about the DC because we have Bowles...the only thing that could make this a super stellar off season is if Westhoff would come out of retirment...but I'll see how they address Special Teams. So far so good!
Problem with your math is it isn't a true 20% chance to make it. Two divisions best record in each division. You can have the 2nd best record in the conference but still not reach the playoffs if the best record in the conference was also in your division. Also the odds don't play straight forward like you claim because of the 4 divisions in each conference, you only assure yourself of a playoff birth by winning your division, after that it's pot luck based on how the rest of the conference performed. The Jets having had a division title since 1998. Every year they've made the playoffs in the last decade has been by squeaking in, barely, with a 9 or 10 win wild card birth. In the past 14 years only 4 or 5 teams have made the wildcard with a 9 win record. And when they do get to the playoffs they've almost always been the bottom seed. Now you can claim it's because the Jets play in the same division as the Patriots, and that argument would hold some weight if the Jets were consistently winning 10+ games but not winning the division. But when over the decade you're around 10 games under .500 and only once better than 2 games over .500 in a season you're not winning because you're just not a very good team.
If you are being hired to turn around a program it only makes sense to bring in a whole new staff as well as a new coach. Idzik never had a chance since he didn't have control of the entire organization. Celebrating the firing of front office people doesn't assure future success. If a healthy Milliner, McDougle and Amaro become top players and Smith leads the Jets to a playoff berth does that make the new GM smart or rehabilitate Bradway? I really hope the new regime does well, and they seem like smart people, but every team has hits and misses. Scouts just give their opinion. The selections are made and sometimes you are smart and sometimes you get lucky. We will see a lucky sixth round QB selection in one of those games today.
I don't understand this comparison. McCareins would have had 14 in 128 games this pace - how do you even list them together?
he posted TD #s, Al Toon wasn't a scoring machine. He went an entire season w/o scoring once. I am not comparing McCareins to Toon who could have been a HOF player if not for concussions just pointing out the stupidity of his argument. Justin McCareins was very good for us in 2004 but b/c he dropped passes in 2007 fans forget 2004.
I have no issue w/ them cleaning house, it is what they should do but I ask again. if our drafts were dog shit for 20 years how did we have the most successful stretch in NYJ history?
isn't 1 in 5 still 20%? The Jets won the division in 2002, the ONLY non Pats team in a year Brady was primary starter for NE to win an AFC East title. does "squeaking in" still get you in?
Remember when he came here and brought 100s of shitty KC Chiefs rejects with him? good riddance - this Jets organization got just better
14 seasons pre Bradway 1987-2000: Playoff apps: 2(one at 8-8) Playoff wins: 1 div titles: 1 road playoff wins: 0 title game apps: 0 losing seasons: 7 most consecutive losing seasons: 3 longest playoff drought: 6 seasons back to back playoff apps? never 14 season w/ Bradway 2001-2014: Playoff apps: 6 Playoff wins: 6 div titles: 1 road playoff wins: 5 title game apps: 2 losing seasons: 5 most consecutive losing seasons: 1 longest playoff drought: 4 seasons back to back playoff apps? 2 times- '01, '02 and '09, '10 Again, this doesn't mean it wasn't the right move b/c it was but we can be decent human beings and have an appreciation for how TB helped this organization.
Your point is? this organization sucked in the 1990s... no crap. Should I have appreciation for the janitors that cleaned the shitters the years we sucked less too?
so you didn't like being a good franchise? you didn't enjoy playoff games and having chances at SBs? got it.
Past tense Junc, past tense. We aren't a good franchise now and haven't been one for like 4 seasons. I swear, if you ran this team - you wouldn't fire a soul and we would still be stuck in the Kotite era.
If I ran this team we'd be contenders much more often than not, if you guys ran it we'd have a new HC and GM every year or 2.
That is incorrect, I just don't believe in firing/releasing/trading at the first hint of trouble. Our current issues go back to firing Tannenbaum who didn't deserve to lose his job but the fans need a scapegoat. They got rid of Schottenheimer, Tannenbaum, Sanchez and we kept getting worse.
