I would advocate for a judicious investment on the following 1- protect by resigning our key young players, the critical nucleous for our future 2- selective investments in critical areas..OL,QB, more OL, may be a WR if we let Percy go 3- save some for future success ....let's not get into cap hell ever again
We all have to take under account that this FO/CS has NO allegiances towards Geno. Geno was inherited by them, so it doesn't matter if he plays or not.
Jermaine Gresham has been touted as the best blocking TE in the league. Bring in Gresham and another guy while we continue to develop Amaro.
Super important key to success this offseason. The fanbase is going to want to spend, spend, and spend some more to get the bad taste out of their mouths from last season. However, this team isn't close to contending yet, so they need to spend wisely. I think that part has been a reoccurring theme on this thread!
I was actually going to put Gresham, and I erased it. I think he might be a little more than they'll want to spend. Good player, but I'd personally put the money into an OG that they can get 4-5 years out of.
I know that. But if they see anything in him they might try to see if they can get anything out of him.
Absolutely. I was referring more to the last poster that made a comment about the "competition", which is silly since the entire organization has been blown up.
I agree that re-signing our own FAs should be the first priority, but that doesn't mean that will be possible or even practical. If they wait until that is done, they could miss out on some outside FAs they really want. I think they should contact any outside FAs (and/or their agents) they really want, let them know that they really want them and ascertain whether those players have any interest in signing with the Jets. If there's no interest, quickly move on to the next FA on their list. I am listing a large number of potential FAs. With the DBs, I have no idea if they are better in man or sone coverage. I looked at age (28 or younger), if they have stayed healthy (for the most part), and if they seem to have some degree of ball skills. Some of you who are more knowledgeable than I regarding other players and teams in the NFL might disqualify some of these players. Jets FAs that should definitely be re-signed imo: Wilk Ellis Harrison Purdum Douzable Jarrett Jets FAs who should possibly be re-signed depending upon what alternate FAs at their positions might be available: Bellore Powell Salas Ijalana Simms Jets who should be cut: Chris Johnson Calvin Pace Jets who possibly should be cut: Jason Babin Jeff Cumberland First tier outside FAs to choose from (if available) Justin Houston - OLB Jerry Hughes - OLB Brandon Graham - OLB Brandon Spikes - ILB Rey Maualuga - ILB Jeremy Maclin - WR Demaryius Thomas - WR Mike Iupati - OG Louis Delmas - FS Nate Allen - FS? Brandon Flowers - CB Kareem Jackson - CB Darius Butler - CB Patrick Robinson - CB Second tier FAs Randall Cobb - WR Denarius Moore - WR Jason Worrilds - OLB Sam Acho - OLB Brooks Reed - OLB Jabaal Sheard - OLB Jamari Lattimore - ILB CJ Spiller - RB Jake Locker - QB Matt Moore - QB Shaun Hill - QB Ryan Mallett - QB Stevie Brown - FS Rahim Moore - FS Chris Conte - FS Darian Stewart - FS Orlando Franklin - OG Clint Boling - OG Joe Reitz - OG Jeff Linkenbach - OG Paul Fanaika - OG Jah Reid -OT/OG Jordan Cameron - TE Lance Kendricks - TE Buster Skrine - CB? Byron Maxwell - CB Cro - CB Chris Culliver - CB? Robert McClain - CB Robert Housler - TE Charles Clay - TE
Nice list... Are you assuming Harris is as good as a Buffalo Bill, or not even worth bringing back? If you had 1 pick from top tier, and multiple from 2nd tier. Who are they?
Salary cap is a bitch. Just because you have a very good player does not mean that you can afford pay him $15 mil per year without leaving huge holes elsewhere. If we were to consider trading Mo we would need to find his replacement first (we do have him locked up for another year).
Amaro needs more reps during game day. I think the Jets can find a cheaper option for the blocking TE role.
Good things aren't cheap and cheap things aren't good. For a lousy $5 mil per year he is one hell of a good player. People forget how good we were when we had Kyle Brady and Anthony Becht to block for us.
Thanks. I'm not sure whether he will want to sign with Rex and Buffalo or not. I just think he has been overrated and overpaid. He never was fast, and has gotten slower and leaves too many plays on the field. If he will come back on a reasonable deal and perhaps as a backup, OK, but I wouldn't pay him a lot to come back. As for the FAs, if he's available, part of me would want Justin Houston. Behind our DL he would be a monster and make our secondary play better as well. Similarly, Iupati could make the OL and offense a lot better. The thing is, however, that the Jets could probably sign 2 or maybe even 3 players for what it would cost to sign one of them. Would just one of them help the team more than 2-3 players? I don't know, but it may be more realistic for the Jets to sign several cheaper players and address more holes. At a minimum (I'm being greedy, I know) I definitely would want to add a QB, WR, CB, OLB, OG and FS. It's not realistic that they will sign that many FAs or address all those positions, and is not even my dream list, but with just one FA from Tier 1 and numerous from Tier 2, I'd like the following: Demaryius Thomas Jason Worrilds Rahim Moore Randall Cobb CJ Spiller Orlando Franklin Shaun Hill or Matt Moore Byron Maxwell
Sheldon is not going anywhere. The main reason that we have to be careful with how much we pay Wilkerson is that we do not want to lose Richardson later. If we overpay Wilkerson, Richardson will want to be overpaid as well. Cutting Mo loose sends a signal that there are limits on how much we will pay while leaving more money available for Sheldon.
