If they make public Woody dragging Darrelle's passed out wife out of an elevator you can bet the league will ratchet up the penalties.
All I know is that in the past, punishment contained a draft swap, Woody should be more careful on the teams he tampers with I guess, make sure their draft position is much closer.
Honestly it should depend on what Revis does. If he resigns with NE, this is no harm no foul as long as there's no contact during the free agency period between Revis camp and the Jets so it wasn't looked at as a ploy to boost the price. I do think something should happen if Revis signs with the Jets though so in that regard......Woody basically just limited himself from signing maybe the hottest corner on the market. It hurts the Jets even without a draft pick lost.
The problem is that Revis is not scheduled to be a free agent until 2016 and current talk makes it likely he receives an extension. Lance Briggs also had no intentions of playing for SF and resigned with the Bears for 6 years, the 49ers still were penalized and quite harshly.
The only punishments that hurt would be ones where Woody keeps the team. Anything else is just an annoyance.
Hopefully it's just a fine. But, I could see Goodell making us swap picks with New England. The Jets have done everything else right this offseason that we all had to know something was going to happen to mess all of that up. They wouldn't be the Jets if that didn't happen.
The Commish is best buds with that fucking pruner Masshole who owns the Cheaters. I'm expecting a loss of a draft pick and a fine. The Patriot Way.
So it all becomes a moot point if New England holds the rights to re-up Revis for 2016 pretty much. It is common knowledge there would be a market if Revis hits FA, even if Woody Johnson just said it openly. Briggs saved face by saying he had no intention of playing for San Francisco after reupping with the Bears. There was still chatter among the parties though.
Oh, I agree. Definitely too punitive. But, given how the Jets always manage to shoot themselves in the foot, even in good times, and Goodell's love of the Patriots, I wouldn't be shocked if it happened. It would be extremely unfair and further he image of corruption the league is currently have a PR issue with, but I wouldn't be shocked all the same.
Which is why I can't see it happening. It would be so obvious to the world what a corrupt sham that would be and you'd get congressional hearings into it. I don't think Goodell could pull that gift off. _
If we lose a pick, especially our first, that would be so devastating for this franchise. We clean house and bring in a new regime and their welcome gift is losing our first round pick? That would be so bad. I would be a little surprised if that were to happen rather than a fine, but just a little surprised, because we ARE the Jets and this would be Kraft and Patriots benefitting.
Thats what Rodger Goodel wants. He will help his good buddy Kraft out. cronyism at its finest in the NFL
