He tore his ACL in mid-December his senior year. If he stays healthy and goes through the combine he's a late first/early second rounder in a massively loaded QB draft. He's a future NFL star. The dude throws lasers. I was down in Nashville last year and that town loves him. They found their franchise QB in the sixth freaking round because of injury. _
I'm sure there will be a team that will gamble on a Farve wannabe Qb but in the end, Cutler will have to change IF he plans on staying in the league.
Why does anyone think Cutler will even be available? Because he got benched by the HC and FO that got fired at end of season? Find it hard to believe that Fox will get rid of him without having any suitable replacement. Cutler and Bradford are highly unlikely to be available to us. Enough already with these unrealistic options. We have to start thinking of the Moores, Fitzpatrick, Hoyers of the NFL, better known as the JAGs of the NFL.
The reason I think Cutler is likely be traded is that not only is he guaranteed for 2015 at this point but he gets $10M guaranteed for 2016 at some early point in the 2015 league year. Right now the Bears could probably let him go for a cheap pick and only have to pick up some of the 2015 tab. That would make his overall hit for 2015 much lower than it currently is and remove his 2016 hit entirely. If the Bears don't move him they're going to be stuck with a $16.5M hit for 2015 and shortly thereafter a $17M hit for 2016. It's possible that John Fox will want him around anyway, however Cutler is turning into the kind of cap encumbrance that just kills teams over time. The Bears already converted $5M of his 2014 salary into a bonus to save space that year and are rolling forward an additional $1M a year hit as result. Odds are they will have to do that again this season and maybe in 2016 as well, turning Cutler into a cap cruncher over time. Given his checkered performance under very stressful conditions so far (the Bears defense has been the worst in the NFL over the last two seasons) it's probably better for them to find a buyer and take a 6th, or whatever, and move on.
I agree that some team is likely to roll the dice with Cutler. I just hope that it isn't the Jets. I also agree that he needs to change, but am not sure that he's able or capable of changing. With the lack of quality QBs in the NFL, Cutler probably knows he will get a chance whether he changes or not.
I can NOT believe I'm going to say this but after thinking about it a bit and going back through and looking at what Gailey has had to work with in his career I believe we are looking at year 3 of Geno Smith. Let's face it. He does have the ability. The talent is there. If Gailey can somehow continue his progression of how to read a defense then things may fall into place. At the very least that allows the Jets to utilize their entire draft and considerable F/A resources in obtaining surrounding talent to support Geno. If they can bolster the o-line and find one more receiver and RB the offense could be at least good. We shall see...
Honestly outside of Chip Kelly we couldn't have gotten a better Offensive Coach than Chan Gailey to help build up Mariota. He's perfect in every way for this system. Also I cant wait to see what he does in the weight room and how his mechanics will improve, dude is going to be ripping balls through the air after he gets a year under his belt.
do you guys really think mariota will be available? I just don't see it happening. and I really don't see the new management wanting to take the risk of a qb with the number 6 pick whenever there are other positions of need. I really think shane ray, randy Gregory, or Amari cooper will be taken with the 6th pick. there are a ton of solid tackles that we can grab in the mid to late rounds that are capable of starting. so I say we get a game changer with the 6th pick like one of the 3 I mentioned.
as for cutler? makes no sense for the bears to get rid of him. the potential is there for cutler anyhow. they would not be able to replace him.. who is out there??? gotta think fox will at least give him a try.. possible qbs to start/challenge geno next season.. moore, Fitzpatrick, hoyer that's about it.
Winston is garbage, he will end up in prison once he gets paid.. Mariota is gifted but im not sold. If he would've ran a pro style offense that's one thing. I wont say yes or no to Mariota until we watch him preparing for the draft. he will be asked to take 3, and 5 step drops and sling it.. if he looks good it wont matter he wont make it to #6 if he looks like shit in a pro system he will fall. Regardless Gailey isn't going to want a rookie qb. He will want to bring in a vet to compete with geno..
Lmao at winston being garbage If he didn't have off the field issues it wouldn't be a question for goes number 1
25 td 18int in a weak acc conference. that's garbage. geno had 42 td and 6 int his final year and look at his struggles in nfl.
Guess his first season means nothing And Geno was in a air raid offense that's why his numbers were inflated
I think there's a chance. I always thought Winston was going #1, and I still do. Titans, Jags, Raiders, Redskins don't need a QB, so that leaves us and and the bears. If we get the kid, I hope we develop him properly…doubt it though. Winston is a very good prospect and imo, will go #1 to the bucs.
Or how he was playing with far less talent this year He is the reason they made it as far as they dif
