Oh it's not about just Winston or Mariota for me. It's about Winston, Mariota, Bridgewater or Carr. But Idzik screwed up and missed out on THOSE two because of some mirage about geno's last 4 games in 2013. So now it's down to 2. And I get that folks will disagree with me--it's just that all I want for this team is for it to be a consistent winner year in and year out and the only way you do that is with the franchise QB. It might not be Mariota or Winston but I have to roll the dice this year because we are in such a great position to take one of them and SEE if they can turn the corner for this franchise or not. I have no idea whether Mariota is going to hit the heights I feel he can hit--but we have to try. A WR or LT is not going to make this team a perennial winner and there is no one IMHO on the horizon that is even close to Mariota (or Winston). _
If the QB isn't Manning Luck or Elway you know you can't take him in the first. Better to draft a CB or LT. Or WR lol. _
I'd have no problem with an LT though if there was someone deserving of the pick (there isn't). And I'd have no problem with a pass rusher worthy of the pick (there's a few). I'm gonna trust the judgment of the new staff when it comes to the QB situation.
It's the reason I wanted and am happy Idzik is gone. Doesn't make it better but I hope he's miserable because that was a major fuck up on his part. _
I'm not a believer in "dropping". Maybe I overshot his draft status but I still think he'll end up being an elite QB within a few years. _
Well hopefully it isn't too major of a fuckup and Bowles can help make Bridgewater's ex teammate into something for this Jet defense.
I'm just saying he made chicken soup out of chicken shit. If Mariota is a Jet, then we are going to see Geno Smith out there wk1 I think
If we get Mariota or Winston I want to see another QB out there and if it's Geno, so be it. I'm just concerned that Gailey can hide all of Geno's flaws enough to make him look like a $60MM QB only to find out it's really just a mirage like Fitzpatrick. I don't want to make chicken soup out of chicken shit. I want to go out and get a piece of prime filet and grill that mother fucker to its full deliciousness. _
I wouldnt be shocked if Mariota fell a few spots. I think Winston will go 1 to Tampa. Mariota could, but I think Winston is superior player and Tampa will go BPA. From there, its obviously all on Tennessee. If they want Mariota, obviously trading up isnt an option. Having said that, Tennessee has Mettenberger and has holes all over the place. Its not out of the realm of possibility that the Titans dont see Mariota as a long term option, and go with Leonard Williams. A lot of teams need QB's and I dont think the Jets are in a position to trade up to 2 if Tennesse doesnt want to take Mariota. Obviously you could risk him falling to 6 and snatching him up, but trading to 2 would require at least next years 1st and probably more. Obviously the Jets dont have a QB, but I dont want to mortgage the future for a QB who might not even be able to play for 2 years. I'd stand pat at 6. If Mariota is there at 6, there is no harm in taking him. The consequences arent terrible if he bombs. If Mariota isnt available and the opportunity presents it, I would trade down to pick up an additional second. I would then go offense crazy: 1. Andrus Peat 2. Dorial Green-Beckham 2. Bryce Petty 3. Duke Johnson After round 3 they can address LB/CB/FS. I dont know where he is going to go, but I'd be all over Gerod Holliman at FS if he's available after round 3.
I don't follow. If he makes him look like a $60M QB, you know that's a good thing, right? As long as Gailey stays here, then what's the problem??
Ryan Fitzpatrick LOOKED like a $60MM QB. But it was a mirage. He was cut less than 18 months after he signed that contract. He sucked just like he always sucked but a magician fooled everyone by making him LOOK like a real QB. Having an OC hide someone's flaws so they look like what they are not is a bad thing. _
That's not the point, my point was he puts players in situations to succeed. If we draft a QB, Geno is nothing more then a stop-gap until the rookie is ready.
As long as he can continue to hide the flaws, I don't see the problem. If defenses can figure out how to expose it, that's a different story.
No way we take a CB at 6, none of them are worth it. My favorite CB in the class is Kevin Johnson and he could possibly be had on day 2.
