yeah I'm not sure I believe the notion that any 4-5 year RB can be replaced by just any RB outta the 4th or something, seems like a fallacy. maybe most rbs don't need to be DRAFTED very high but a proven asset hitting his prime is a proven asset hitting his prime. I'd rather see Spiller, Ivory and Powell here than try our luck hoping a rookie does the job. not every RB pans out,and not that many contribute in a huge way their first year (not as many as one might think anyway) rookies might be cheaper but its not like the market on free agent running backs is all that high. his injury wasn't leg or ligament based he's likely got years left in him, i'd be fine giving him a deal worth around 4 million a year. it'll probably be a front loaded deal that'll be easy to get out of like a year later... if he's up for it, I'm up for it.

Interesting. Then let's go hard after this guy. He's a threat to take it the distance every time he touches it. I always loved his explosion. Looking at the list of FA backs, I also like Knowshon and Ingram for the right price. If Spiller wants top back money then we may have to look elsewhere. Knowshon started this year strong before his injury and he's a Jersey boy who would play well in front of his home fans.
I'd love it due to his age and ability, but I think we should improve the receiving corps before spending on a RB. I'd honestly love to go after Julius Thomas TE of the Broncos.
Spiller is fool's gold. Tantalizing ability, but a chronic underachiever who can't stay healthy for long. Pass! Let some other team waste cap space and a roster spot on this guy who will only disappoint.
he missed a bunch of games this year for the first time in his career. aside from that how do you figure he can't stay healthy? he had his best years under the current jets offensive coordinator. seemed like a no brainer.

And before you counter that he's also a good receiver, he averages about 30 catches for 250 yards a season. ... That's why I call him an underachiever. Those are Blair Thomas numbers. As for being injury prone, he has appeared on the injury report 20 times in his career. 6 of those times, he was listed as "out", "doubtful", or "questionable". The numbers don't tell the whole story. He was woefully underutilized in Buff. That AND his injuries led to his numbers.
Oh there's no forgetting him, but I just don't see us investing the kind of $ he's going to command after having Decker being paid what he got last year. This is one nice option. Another scenario I wouldn't mind is going hard after Julius Thomas and Spiller and drafting Shane Ray at 6. The reason being is I can see Gailey do more play action stuff with Geno or whomever the other QB is that we bring in. Two big TE's (and Julius is like a hybrid WR) to go along with Spiller, Decker and Kerley would be nice. Not to mention we would finally get that true pass rusher off the edge to create havoc.

I wouldn't mind giving CJ2K another year to see what Gailey can do with him? I don't think he was fed the ball enough to get him getting in a rhythm, he seems to need more carries to get in the flow of the game. I wouldn't even mind giving Ray Rice a look if we did decide to part ways with CJ. Although we kinda do need a speed back as a compliment to the power running of Ivory, we may be able to use Harvin's speed in these situations? Gailey needs to get creative . I'm not saying that that's what they are gonna absolutely get but that's gonna be what they want. You can probably take 10 off of Spiller and somone will buy that. Couple teams are in real need of a RB.
I wouldn't be upset if the Jets signed Spiller, but if the draft has a bumper crop of RB's like last years slew of WR's I wouldn't want the Jets to miss out like they did last year. So my first option would be draft a pass catching speedy rookie and work him in with Ivory and Powell. I think after his arrest and 2014 Chris Johnson is damaged goods.
27 is not prime for a RB in most cases..usually it's the age of decline. And he's already been on the decline from what I've seen. We aren't a Spiller away from contention. So why waste the money when we can use it in other areas like oline and secondary to actually improve the team?
