If he's so good why would he be 3rd string? People want to take him at pick 6 but he wouldn't even be the backup at OSU next year. This is laughable.
Has anyone actually suggested taking him in the first round? I didn't see that. I'm merely stating that he's a 2nd round pick to the right team. We're not the right team. He would just be a waste of a pick here.
Yes they have. And I don't see any way he's a 2nd round pick but regardless you're right we wouldn't be the right team anyway.
I don't know why he was 3rd string in the first place. He's got a lot of potential, so he's very raw. He looks like a better QB than both of those guys, but he's not seasoned. Barrett has nothing on him. And he's got a better arm than Miller for certain. Doesn't make you a better college QB. Again, have no idea who is supporting picking him at 6. From his standpoint, I think he'd be stupid to stay. He could absolutely start at OSU, but he could also get relegated to backup duty, which is awful for his future. If you know you can get drafted off of what you did for 3 games, I think you do it.
He's a 2nd round pick because he's got a big arm and is very tough to bring down. I have no idea how smart he is or anything like that. But a team that can draft him and let him sit around for a few years might be getting a very good QB. But he needs to sit for a few years. He needs the Ryan Mallett treatment, much moreso than Mallett needed it.
He held a press conference to announce he was returning to OSU without a starting spot guaranteed... Winston/Mariota didn't even have a press conference. I don't even understand.
Thanks for editing this thread mods...self centered prick holds a conference to say he's staying? fuck him
And the risk he takes by getting drafted now is no guaranteed money since he has too many question marks and not enough body of work to get a 1st round grade. As of now, he's the opening day starter for Ohio St. next year. There's no way he's 3rd on the depth chart going into next year. Anyone who wins a national championship and played as well as he did in the process isn't going to be 3rd string going into their following season. Neither Miller nor Barrett can make that claim. His best option is to raise his draft stock into a sure first round grade next year. If he comes out now then he most likely doesn't get drafted in the first round and forgoes a lot of money.
smart move for him...now he can prove he's as good as the hype...or destroy his 15 minutes of fame... either way... he's not ready right now.. maybe if he has a good year he'll be a 1st round pick...
I disagree. He could raise his stock, but has a better chance of dropping it. I'd rather go into the draft as that wild card unknown and assume one of 32 teams rakes a high chance on me. Being a first round pick doesn't pay what it used to. I'd rather make sure I'm picked. And I think he'd be a 2nd rounder on potential alone and end up in a great situation behind a stud QB.
Rather get picked? I don't think there's any question that he would get picked, rather where he would get picked. If he's most likely a 2nd rounder than that means he could definitely improve his stock by coming back another year and making himself a top 10 pick. Of course there's the risk that he drops with a poor junior season but he stands to gain a lot more money if he has a full college season where he performs at the highest level. With OSU probably being the preseason #1 going into next year and having a stacked roster, odds are that he has a big season next year.
If he's told he's getting the keys to the car, then maybe. But Miller is no slouch and much more experienced. we know Jones performed well for the 3 most important games, but I'm not convinced Meyer sees him as better than Miller. There's a reason he had him 3rd on the depth chart. Maybe he thinks he can vault himself to the top of the first round, but you're telling me that he's more likely to improve his stock by returning and making himself a first rounder? I think he's more likely to not start, or not be able to replicate his performance.
You guys should watch his press conference instead of assuming he's just another dumb kid who can play football. He said he plays football to get an education and that's why he's going back to school. Doesn't care about his 3rd string status, says he will compete like everyone else. This kid has his head screwed on right.
I never liked the education argument. It's not like he can't get the education during or after his career in the NFL. Your future is to cash in on your football ability and then supplement it after the fact. I'm merely arguing that he has a lot of question marks with his NFL future by heading back to school. He leaves now and I think he's a 2nd round pick (maybe I'm wrong on that). He goes back and he could be anything from a 1st rounder to undrafted based on how it all plays out.
All of those arguments were brought up at the press conference. He said it doesn't matter, he wants to graduate. I guess he is a dumb kid after all.
I never said he was dumb for going back to school. I'm just saying why I think it doesn't make sense.
