What a load of complete BS. By all accounts Sanchez was his guy and stuck with him throughout. He got defensive heavy drafts his entire tenure here most of them high picks. Brought in Bart Scott, Jimmy Leonhard and stuck with them too long when they were on the decline. Stuck with Schotty, brought in Sparano, brought in Marty M, brought in David Lee, got his "hand picked" fullback in Connor, took Tajh Boyd with "his" pick, took Scotty McKnight with another one of "his" picks. Yeah, he had no power to bring in his own guys. Sure.
Sanchez- the guy w/ a winning record here, the guy that helped him reach 2 title games? how did he stick w/ Leonhard too long? Leonhard got hurt in 2011 w/ us at 8-5, we didn't win a game w/o him. Schotty leaving was a HUGE negative along w/ Bill Callahan. Notice how each time one of the scapegoats left we just kept getting worse and worse?
I can't speak for all Pats fans but having Rex still in the AFCE is really weird after hearing for months and months that he was done in NY. I figured he'd get a job somewhere but obviously didn't expect the Buffalo spot to open up. It's sort of like if you had a neighbor... decent enough guy, but he borrows your stuff and doesn't return it right away, has a lot of loud parties, or walks around half naked with the blinds open... you're sort of glad when he finally moves, but he just ends up going from the house to your right to the house to your left. He's always loaded up for the Patriots so I expect those games to be tough. He just couldn't get through a PC without mentioning that I guess. And he's talking playoffs already... anyone surprised? LOL...
I'm on board with paragraph one...not so much with paragraph two. Sanchez needs a phenomenal defense to overcome his shortcomings. And we all know what they are. I think Rex and Sanchez were a good match, but the two recent runs were as much luck as they were dynamic. Such an infuriating era. I should be used to it by now. Hopefully, and by all reports he can, Bowles will steady a team that needs a firm hand on the tiller. ...and a QB and some cornerbacks.
The narrative that Rex didn't have the power to bring in "his own guys" is false. He had plenty of power and sway while he was here and he certainly brought in his guys. He just failed at bringing the right ones in.
So already Bowles is a projected loser as a coach--nice. So the fit of piques and resentment towards a former Jet continue--nice. As opposed to Jet fans who give a thumbs down both to their new coach and only Jet QB (other than Babe Parelli ) to win a SB ring as a Jet--nice.
I was role playing w/ the other poster. I was playing the part of Rex. I am excited about Bowles, I hope he is great. Have no idea if new GM or new HC will work out but there's nothing I want more in the sports world. I discuss everyone realistically, I appreciate what Joe helped the franchise do but I am not going to pretend he was Tom Brady.
Got it. Got it-agreed. And no, he was never Tom Brady. And Gisele or no Gisele, Tom Brady was never Joe Namath ; ) on-topic: Much as I like him, I do hope to see a lot of this when the Bills and Jets meet....blow the rest of those T.O.'s Rex!
Joe may get the edge off the field but I couldn't care less about that. On the field Joe didn't have half the career Brady has had.
How did a Rex Ryan Bills Press Conference thread end up with a Joe Namath vs. Tom Brady debate? Classic!
You and junc are using the word 'debate' not me. I was only jokingly calling him on his persistent Namath-put-down itch he loves to scratch.
