so Rex was the reason for the 2002 and 2004 playoff wins too? he's pretty amazing.

I am hearing how Bradway sucked, Rex sucked, Herm sucked, Chad sucked, Tannenbaum sucked, Sanchez sucked, Schottenheimer sucked. How the heck did we win so much w/ all these crappy people?

Ok, so in your hero worship Bradway had "nothing to do with those picks..." But he also is a "major reason" for the Jets 'success'. So, how is he a major reason if you can't even point to him definitively as responsible for picking players?

I didn't even mention the HOME Playoff games, good call there. Sure the Jets have a handful of playoff appearances, but they are exclusively Wild-Card and as we have seen in recent years, getting that 1st round bye and a home game is extremely important. Hell the Seahawks this year we pretty much handed a spot in the NFC title game.

You mentioned six playoff games...sounds like 2009 and 10 to me.

And I'll answer your question as honestly as I can, Junc. the NY Football Jets have sucked basically their entire existence except for one fateful day in 1969. They 100% absolutely sucked ass hole in the decades of the 70's, 80's and most of the 90's. They just suck LESS lately than say EXPANSION like Jacksonville and, until this year, Buffalo.

If you even took the time to look at your list, you'd see that we have all of SIX appearances, in like over ten years. The only teams we're "better than" have less than six. Some have zero, some have three. That's really crappy. The other teams, the REAL quality teams, have more than 10. That's a big gap. The gap between QUALITY and meh.

A few playoff wins are nice, but if that's the measure of success then it's no wonder this franchise hasn't been to the Super Bowl in over 40 years. I'm not saying some playoff wins arn't a good thing, but the key is to build on that. Look at the Colts this year compared to last. Clearly they are getting better and closer to winning a title. The Jets though? I don't think I ever really had that feeling except for in 2010, and once 2011 rolled around, all of that positive momentum was gone.

Why is it that there's always a vocal minority that look at the crap the Jets franchise is and want to turn it into something good? It's not
That's probably because you looked at who we were drafting, who we were selecting as FA and saw that it was not sustainable. And, to me, you could look at who is in charge of drafting and selecting players--the GMs and the scouting director--and see a deficiency. Hell, the new guy has already made it clear that our scouting department sucks, which, of course, you wouldn't have to tell 100% of knowledgeable Jets fans. We saw it every year: the whiffs, the lack of NFL caliber talent selected in the lower rounds, the downgrading of talent at key positions, the need to use FA to a greater extent than should be used to compensate for poor drafting.

We should not have to deal with this shit year after year!!

NE hasn't drafted very well, they have Tom Brady to make others look much better than they are.

mid/late round/undrafted quality players in the years TB has been here:

    Brandon Moore
    James Reed
    Kareem McKenzie
    Jonathan Goodwin
    Chris Baker
    Derrick Ward
    Erik Coleman
    Jerricho Cotchery
    Joel Dreesen
    Kerry Rhodes
    Drew Coleman
    Leon Washington
    Dwight Lowery
    Matt Slauson
    Jeremy Kerley
    Damon Harrison
    Mike DeVito
    Robert Turner
    James Ihedigbo
    Danny Woodhead
    Jeff Cumberland

I will leave the last few drafts out of it as it is still early.

so it's SB or bust? for a franchise that hasn't been to one since January of 1969? Interesting.

The Colts have ANDREW LUCK, they had Peyton Manning. we have NEVER had a QB as good as either. that makes the job MUCH easier.

Man....only ONE of those guys on that list made a pro-bowl. And almost ALL of them are no longer on the Jets! Really? As well, we didn't DRAFT Damon Harrison...he was FOUND by Rex Ryan...that's Snacks.

It's hardly SB or bust. But I think one could measure the drafted talent on the team AND the success derived from that talent and reasonably state that the drafting has been less than stellar.

Hey, NONE of us know which scouts liked so and so, etc. Bradway gets the vitriol because we know his name, he was the GM for a short time, and has been here a long time. Why has he lasted throughout the various regimes? Because he's probably pretty good at what he does. As far as I know, the scouts submit the recommendations, and the GM makes the pick. We sort of knew who the Rex picks were, but other than that we do not.

I still think the biggest part of the Jets problem over the last 15 years is knowing who to pay and who not to pay once their contract is up, which should be the easy part. We payed Holmes 10 million when clearly that money would have been better used later on Revis. We payed Sanchez a ton when he hadn't proven anything yet. We let go of Cromartie when his price tag for a CB was beyond cheap by today's standards. We let Cotchery walk, and they later payed the same type of guy, only with worse numbers in Kerley. We traded Vilma for nothing and then he had 3 100+ tackle seasons in a row.

Hey, you're the one who compiled the list. So, if you're going to mention them, I think I should be able to say, "underwhelming because many of those players were taken NOT at the back end of the draft."

I have to be honest here...I can't fathom why you are putting this much energy into backing "Badway." We all wanted his ass gone when he lost the GM chair...he just moved to a different part of the organization to tear it apart. Are you on his payroll or something? The mere fact that every single year the topic of the Jets needing MORE talent comes up should be the only barometer you need. I'm just baffled.

If the goal was to not suck or to suck less than the post Parcell's era was mostly a success with a little suck mixed in. But we all know that's not the goal, or at least most of us do.

Why is it that the NY Jets are never just a "piece or two" away? Why can we have that same conversation with New England...Denver....Baltimore...Pittsburgh...hell, the Dolphins....I mean...Really.....

That's part of it. The GM part. But, to be fair, I believe Cotchery made it clear he wanted to leave. But, yeah, that's a big part of being a GM, figuring out who is actually worth keeping.

I think the Jets have been poor at who is worth keeping AND who should be selected. There are too many whiffs and "meh" selections. Yeah, someone will put a list of players that the Jets drafted and it doesn't look like the worst you've ever seen. But, look at the Jets roster at the end of last year, pretty much the same talent level as it has been for years. And it's NOT a super-talented roster filled with young, dynamic players. It's an older roster littered with FAs and 'meh' talent. And it's been there throughout the tenure of Terry Bradway.
