"There is a report today by Jeff Darlington that new general manager Mike Maccagnan will re-do the entire scouting department. This makes sense, considering Woody Johnson said the new GM would be allowed to decide the fate of Terry Bradway and others. When Maccagnan was hired, Darlington had this to say:

    Jeff Darlington ✔ @JeffDarlington
    Follow

Now, Darlington, on the radio, said that:

This is most certainly true. The New York Jets have been unable to scout and self-scout for a very long time. Most of these guys have been here for 10+ years, and as they say, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. The problem is endemic, and it seems like Maccagnan will finally remove the tumor."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought scouting contracts lasted until after the draft. I don't think we can restructure the dept until after this upcoming draft :/

I just need to note that the last 10+ years have been the best 10-15 year stretch in NYJ history.

This makes sense, Maccagnan is the first GM to be hired to come from a pure scouting/personnel background. He's not going to have to rely as heavily on other holdovers who have more experience in that department. He probably has people he already knows he wants to bring in.

Agreed but the last 4 have been pretty terrible. The goal is to get over the hump, not just have short stretches of success and then watch things fall apart.

No doubt and the new GM should be able to hire and fire whoever he wants so I have no issue w/ that it just bugs me how fans blame people who they have no idea what they do and forget all the good they helped contribute to this organization.

Agreed. Terry Bradway has been a whipping boy for Jets fans for a long time. I think it's pretty undeserved as well.

The reason that didn't result in people being kept around is because the results were inconsistent.

All we can hope for is an improvement in the consistency area.

This is a necessary step. Too much deadwood and guys not loyal to the organization some of them Mehta's leaks. If you want to get rid of the circus in total this has to be done.

It is being reported now that Bradway is very likely gone.

actually the franchise was very consistent. haven't had back to back losing seasons since 1995 and 1996.

Bradway will get reassigned. Woody would sell the team before he gets rid of him completely.

Back to back losing seasons is not the same as back to back unsuccessful seasons, of which there are more.

I agree it was one of the better times to be a Jets fan, but simultaneously I can't blame the organization for wanting more. The fans certainly do.

Look at the quality of drafts from 2008-2011 minus Wilkerson. They are terrible. 2012-2014 are ok and if you take out Shelden Richardson and Jace Amaro, they are also pretty bad. There is a reason the Jets lack blue chip elite level talent and it is because of the shit drafting.

we all want a SB but in case we forget we had more chances under rex and co. than we had under any regime and we came closest w/ rex than at any time since making SB III.

so if we take out the successful players the drafts suck?

they may not have been great but the drafts weren't anywhere near as bad as you guys think. got a lot of starters on title game teams out of the '08/'09 drafts.
