I think both are true. In essence, Rex's record isn't close to justifying his big mouth. Personally, I always hated the bravado. It's phony (i.e. it's false bravado) and it's unnecessary (i.e. it in no way helps his team).
and in 2010 after the 45-3 loss to NE. But, yeah, he really softened on Rex after it was obvious that Rex was going to crash and burn here.
Rex's mouth was what Francessa was obsessed with. had nothing to do with football. that's why he was so fixated on the pressers, rather than the actual games played.
I agree to an extent. But, I think the two go hand in hand. When the team can't cash the checks that the head coach's mouth writes, things get old very quickly.
no game has ever been won or lost at a press conference. nor has any real information been learned. it is essentially entertainment imo. I'd rather listen to Rex than mumbles if i'm not going to learn anything..
I agree. I strongly disagree (but, to each his/her own). To me, the head coach is the most prominent representative of an NFL Football team on a day to day basis. As a result, I never really enjoyed having a loud-mouthed, braggart representing my team. Yeah, he was funny at times and entertaining at others. But, most of the time, I found his empty promises and delusional self confidence to be an unnecessary distraction. I also don't believe it has had a particularly positive impact on the young players he has coached.
I do wonder will Francesa be out of the Jets' doghouse now that Rex is gone and they brought in a guy 'he' knows and likes? The only guy still around from Francesa's Jet-hating campaign is Woody.
no way he should ever be let out of the Jets doghouse, and i think Woody would agree. he burned that bridge long ago, and he offers very little. i'll be pissed if we start doing interviews with him.
That is true but the year he got swept by the Phins was the same year they were up 11 points in the championship game.
I think Francesa pathologically hates Rex which probably stems from a long-standing issue with Buddy. I think he thinks that he won his battle...that Rex crashed and burned as Francesa said he would. I also think that Francesa got wind of the Jets' interest in Bowles and jumped on his bandwagon before the Jets hired him, so he can claim credit for any success the Jets have with him.
