Welcome aboard!!! Great hire. This guy was highly regarded everywhere and has a very different personality than Rex. More no-nonsense. I hope he prioritizes the offensive side of the ball and doesn't make the same mistakes as Rex. We got a good one fellas. May take until 2016 until we really see results but I'm ready to be patient and let this guy build something
I'm not sure what to expect with this hire, and I'm most certainly not swayed by the shallow and half assed arguments of goofy people like GoldenShowers and UnhappyJetsFan, but I do see arguments made by people that think that Bowles' aggressive defense equates to Rex. That's really dumb. Rex has been singing his serenade to his father for 6 years, "Daddy, I will win with your formula and make you proud!!!" We've had to deal with that shit for a long time. Now the stupid fans of the Bills do, thankfully. This new guy has no such attachment. Maybe he is aggressive, but he won't be giving us two strong safeties, he likes to attack the QB. Get over the surface similarities, because that is all they are. The Chan Gailey thing is disturbing, though.
Hold on a sec - aren't these the same fans that want Woody to throw the blank checks at Gruden and Cowher???!
I'm pretty surprised by the Gailey hate already. The guy has been a very high quality OC in this league. I like having an experienced OC with a defensive minded HC.
Because people look at him as the failure of a HC that he was, not even realizing that maybe he'll do fine as an OC. Wade Phillips failed as a HC, but he was a great DC. Kubiak is a great OC who didn't do great as a HC.
There has never been a defense ranked 20 th in the Rex Ryan era, where do you get your stats from because you are terribly misinformed
showing blitz, but ultimately rushing 4 is not blitzing. that's what we were primarily doing. we haven't blitzed much at all these last 2 years because of our secondary. Bowles blitzed almost 50% of the time this year, most in NFL. That is how Rex was playing back in Revis's days here, but hasn't been able to more recently. Sending pressure is a philosophy i whole heartedly agree with. now lets get Bowles some secondary help so he can unleash the full fury of his game plans!
That's a fine idea and all, but he's not a defensive coordinator. If we are getting "him" guys to run "his" schemes, we're in trouble.
agreed. Gailey is a bit of a head scratcher. I'd feel better if he was at least position coaching these last 2 years.
And I actually don't mind having an ex headcoach as an oc because he will under stand the game as a whole, because he has been on the shoes of bowles before.
Another defensive guy? They just fired the best defensive coach in football and we go defense again? This team is a total joke
I can tell the clueless posters just by reading posts like this. The job of a head coach is too be a damn HEAD COACH. Rex was a DC in a HC role. Rex was undisciplined with his team, a blowhard, and didn't give a damn about the offense (and I liked Rex, but this was the truth).
