Take this from a Bills fan.... dont be totally discouraged by Chan. He is a very good offensive coach. You can look at Buffalo's total offensive stats and see mediocrity, which is what it was, but understand also what he had to work with and what he made them into. His QB was a 7th round pick. His RB was undrafted. His #1 WR was a 7th round pick. His TE was picked up on the scrap heap (waivers) as was half of his offensive line. He made them all pretty good players. He maxed Fitzpatrick's talent, made Stevie Johnson what he was (and hasn't been even relevant since Gailey left), got Spiller to average 6.0 yards per carry in 2012 (and he hasn't been relevant since) and got the scrap heap o-line to be very good (which badly regressed under Marrone with the same exact players). He was responsible for that one year Tyler Thigpen came out of nowhere at QB for Kansas City, and also for Kordell Stewart's really good years as slash in Pittsburgh. When Gailey left, Stewart was trash. He may be old, and he may not have been in football for 2 years, but if he hasn't lost a step it shouldn't be too bad. Going back to a defensive HC on the other hand makes no sense to me.
Because he hasn't had a job since, why all of a sudden are we suppose to belive this guy can fix the jets passing game and qb situation.Bowles is a defensive guy in his first year he is gonna lean on him to handle this part of the team
Look at his history as offensive coordinator and his history with qbs and then get back to me. Him sucking at head coach means nothing to me
Someone please provide me with proof as to why this guy is a bad hire? I can't find one single thing. He has had a GREAT career as an OC.
Anyway, I am withholding judgment till I know more about Gailey. What does he think about the Qb position? Would he hypothetically work better with Mariota or Winston in his offensive scheme?
Not thrilled with his advanced age, but devil's advocate says someone of his experience can be very useful to a first time head coach. It seems a lot of the negative reactions occurring right now are very much a "what have you done for me lately" mindset.
Excuse me, but to be frank... The Bills going back to a defensive HC and getting rid of Schwartz after Marrone had a defense ranked 4th MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. Jets stunk everywhere and we need help in all the areas, primarily a leader who can take command of the TEAM, not a glorified Head Coach who really only cares about his defense and lets the OC take all responsibility with the offense. Just saying...
I'll admit, I was wrong. Casserly still hired one of his former players; this is my shocked face ... I was really, really wrong when I said he'd hire two of his buddies and predicted (10 days ago - before any interviews) it would be Maccagnan and Marrone. *eye roll*
