if he was cut and would sign a reasonable deal maybe you take that chance but to give up picks and have to overpay him and kill your cap? No way.
I agree. I never said give up Dp's or a truckload of cash. Buffalo has neither. It will all depend on if ChiTown cuts him first. With his contract, I'm not so sure that's gonna happen. Dead money could be the issue with that..
No to Cutler. I have no problem starting a rookie, if he's the right rookie and wins the job outright. I don't want anymore faux competitions
I hate to say this but the reason you can take a chance on Bradford is because Geno is here. There's no doubt Bradford would start in that scenario. Simultaneously Geno is still young, still has talent, and would benefit from riding the bench while not being completely lost if he needed to get on the field. I think if the opportunity to get Bradford at a reasonable cost presents itself, it's worth the risk to try.
If we have to pick someone who will actually be available... Moore is my choice. Solid player, smart, affordable and most important... available. No dp's, no huge contact.
I don't want a hold the fort qb. If we see going to trade for a guy it should be someone with long term potential. If we are going to start some vet jag it should only be until we are out of playoff contention. I am tired of hoping to have a qb we might win with. We need to keep moving towards the qb who wins for us. If that means more 6-10 seasons and less wildcard appearances, so be it
as a stopgap Moore would be fine, if we think we can be a playoff team(and remember, it's likely there will be a 3rd WC team added next year) then I would look elsewhere.
Gotta buy a ticket to play the lottery.... Wilson wasn't the only QB Seattle picked up in that offseason, Brady was a 6th round pick. I honestly don't care if the next guy is a rookie or a 10 year veteran, I just want someone who can read a defense and make good decisions...
Problem...there are no other elsewheres. Moore is as good as anyone available in FA. We're not gonna find our "Warner" at walgreens. Bring him in, see what he can do with a good coach, good weapons and a solid defense.
4 teams left in the playoffs Packers, Seahawks, Colts, Patriots- all drafted their QBs 4 just eliminated Cowboys, Panthers, Broncos, Ravens- 3 drafted their QBs(Romo UDFA) and 1 signed their QB who was released because the next big thing was picked by his team 4 eliminated prior to that Cardinals, Lions, Bengals, Steelers- 3 drafted their QBs, 1 signed Carson Palmer who was then hurt Other NFL teams who drafted their QBs Teams with 8 or more wins 49ers- drafted Kaepernick Dolphins- drafted Tannehill Chargers- drafted Rivers Chiefs- traded for Alex Smith because Kaepernick was a 49er Texans- currently in transition Bills- have EJ who will get coached by Greg Roman Eagles- drafted Foles other teams with drafted QBs Falcons- drafted Matt Ryan Giants- drafted Eli Manning Jaguars- drafted Blake Bortles Vikings- drafted Teddy Bridgewater Raiders- drafted Derek Carr Rams- drafted Sam Bradford Point is draft your QB until you find him and when you do things around your team get better unless you get into a fortunate situation like Denver, New Orleans or Kansas City then you have to draft, develop and build an offense that will maximize his strengths and mask his weaknesses.
on a somewhat related note, of our 12 all time postseason wins 11 were started by QBs we have drafted. Only Vinny in 1998 wasn't an original drafted Jet. Mark Sanchez 4 Joe Namath 2 Chad Pennington 2 Richard Todd 2 Vinny Testaverde 1 Pat Ryan 1
amazes me after recent history and the obvious hole on our team guys would rather have Sam the ACL Bradford or a rookie who has a much better chance of busting than not. gluttons for punishment i tell ya.
