I think Philbin has turned out to be a good coach. He's grown into his role if you ask me.

Looks like Bowles might be our guy.

Meeting for a second time and he has chosen to meet with us before the Falcons. Falcons were rumored to have been ready to offer him a job.

We might be getting our head coach by tomorrow.

I would hope not. Personally, I'd be happy with Bowles but I don't know enough about him to know he will actually succeed with us.

What I want is for the Jets to identify who their guy is, who the right person to move this franchise forward is, and to go get him. If that is Dan Quinn, then they should take the risk of missing out on the second choice. You don't win in the NFL by shrinking away from a challenge and this is no different.

If Quinn is the guy then wait for him, and don't take no for an answer when the time comes. If the Jets settle for second best now, they will never be better than that with their choice. They will be losers before the new regime has even begun. If Woody wants to show he is serious about winning, then he needs to act like it and get his guy.

Or perhaps they have been impressed by Bowles? What is the element in the situation that leads to the assumption that the decision to consider Bowles is because the Jets are panicking about Quinn?

his teams have melted late in seasons the last 2 years w/ playoff talent. He's a modern Bruce Coslet to me

Are you arguing that because Bowles might be their second choice than he actually can't turn out to be the better coach? That sure seems to be what you are saying if you are saying that hiring him will mean the Jets will never be better than second best.

Beyond that, you don't know whether any coach can succeed, so how does your not knowing whether Bowles is the right guy any different than the fact that you don't know if any candidate is the right guy?

I'm arguing that the Jets should determine what is best for them and make it happen.

I have opinions on how good these coaches will be but they are not air tight. I have stronger opinions on who I don't want (Kubiak) than who I do want.

I think the notion of the wishy/washy Woody has a few folks uncomfortable. In this instance, he does need to do his due diligence and make an informed decision. So far, he's done the diligence part so now its time to settle on one guy and make it happen. We can't keep on interviewing everyone in the NFL for the HC job as that makes US look indecisive and weak.

I don't think he is looking indecisive, he wants Quinn but can't hire him yet. I think they also really like Bowles and would be happy w/ either.

So Junc, do you think Woody has the stomach to wait on Quinn, or will he go with Bowles? You do have to shutdown the interview process at some point though.

I don't know if he can afford to unless Quinn has indicated to him he would definitely take the job. he cannot afford to wait for Quinn and miss on him.

Who do you prefer more? Quinn or Bowles?

I have to think Bowles has been extremely impressive with his presence in these interviews

Don't mean to intrude on Junc response, but this question IMO is truly the crux of the problem for the Jets. Seems to me it is more than balls and guts about waiting on Quinn, but also properly assessing the likelihood of us being the first choice given the competition. If they are very close in talent, I would take Bowles and get a leg up on forming my team. If not, then waiting and hope your plan B works.

Because Kubiak has been a head coach it is easy to have an informed opinion on his potential. But the coordinator crop is totally unproven. They are all successful which is why they are candidates, but being a head coach requires more than the organization and okay calling it takes to succeed on one side of the ball and nobody knows just from watching their current team's success whether they possess those larger organizational, philosophical and teaching abilities that successful head coaches have.

On board with this. I think he's ok, but I don't think he motivates his players well.

I think we're just doing this to be safe. I believe Quinn/Shanahan are our guys. It just makes more sense. I couldn't complain either way though, but i'd rather have Quinn just because we know the seattle defense is special we all want to see the jets run that system.
