I'm curious to think what Jets fans thought of Marty Mornhinweig.

I thought he did a great job in year 1 working with a terrible roster.

This season we were actually pretty good between the twenties, but simply couldn't score in the redzone. Some of that falls on the players, but if I recall Marty had the same issues in Philadelphia.

I will say I feel Marty was head and shoulders the best offensive coordinator we have had since Dan Henning.

He designs a very good offense. But his playcalling is just downright terrible.

The red zone offense was very bad, and a lot of that came down to playcalling. He also caused us to lose a game by trying to call a time out, causing Richardson to call a time out.

He also called too many passing plays when we were at that field goal range where a long sack would take us out of range. He should have leaned on the running game in those situations, in closer games, rather than risk a sack.

And then another big error he made was not trusting Chris Ivory. He used CJ way too often, even after it was clear that he was no longer CJ2K. There were games we may have won if he'd skewed things more towards Ivory. He allowed Michael Vick be unprepared to start, which was also pretty bad. He didn't really seem to help Geno Smith advance much either.

He didn't have great talent to work with, but overall I'd say that he did not come very close to maximizing our chances of winning with the talent that we did have. He wasn't a disaster by any stretch, and he was the best of Rex's OCs, but that's damning with faint praise.

Basically under Marty the Jets O didn't regularly move the ball. Put too much on the defense because of a poor TOP and many 3 and outs. Play calling: I didn't like it. He never really seemed to out game plan the opponent. Overall we were behind the eight ball in many games because of the offense. Even when the D was keeping us in games.

Decent OC with suspect playcalling at times. I wouldn't mind if he was brought back.

    Bingo.

I wasn't a big fan. While I think MM has a very creative offense that puts a lot of pressure on the defense with a myriad of different formations, I think he has a surprisingly poor feel for when to run and when to pass, within the context of the game. And, in general, he just wasn't willing to play to the roster's strength and emphasize the bruising running game that was at his disposal.

How much of that was Rex though? He had his paws all over the offense. And we ran too much actually.

You said it man. I felt like we had 3 solid running backs on the team this year.

How can so many people on this board bitch and whine that one of Ryan's biggest fallacies was his complete lack of attention to the offense...yet you comment that he had his "paws" all over the gig? Which is it?

we also have people on this board saying Rex forced the offense to play outdated football by running too much, and others saying Marty sucked because he didn't utilize our backs by running enough. Which is it?

Marty's offense is proven. He's a good OC with a very good track record.

He couldn't make wine from water with Geno, and Vick played like he didn't give a shit.
better QB play would have opened up the offense. instead we turned the ball over to the point of having to play scared. i don't put that on Marty.

His playcalling i found suspect at times. But i'm pretty sure every fan base says that about their OC.

I doubt Rex had much to do with it and we definitely did not run too much with Geno and Vick behind center.

When he came on board I thought we finally got someone who knows something about offense.

Now I know that Andy Reid was the brains of the outfit in Philly.

I don't think he was terrible, but the RZ offense was brutal. I don't know if that's been a theme with MM in the past, but we know it's been a Rex thing so it was annoying MM couldn't fix it.

good gameplans, good use of talent that he has, bad bad playcalling at times that are mind boggling. if you can't call it and execute it's useless. i will say we've certainly had worse OC's.

Fine with me. Certainly the best OC we've had in some time.

OC always takes more blame than they deserve. If our QB could have made more accurate throws, the playcalling would have looked a lot better. My complaint is that he probably could have ran the ball a bit more.

so you're saying his playcalling wasn't correct lol forcing the pass when you know Geno is inconsistent is a play calling issue.
