It's almost a forgone conclusion that Dan Quinn is our new Head Coach will likely bring the Seattle style defense to New York.

Who are some of the guy you think can fill some of the specific roles we need to fill to make this defense work.

    Big Physical Corners
    Free Safety
    Mike Linebacker
    LEO

No sure thing with Quinn with each passing week...But I assume linebackers are a top priority.

Someone like Shaq Thompson or Beasley

How is it a forgone conclusion?

When he is available there are multiple teams looking to bring him in, including the Falcons.

This is going to create the same situation the Jets had going from Parcells/Groh to Herm. A few important assets that are 3-4 oriented will devalue with some position switches in the offing. We had the same problem going from Herm to Mangini.

It's really important that the Jets get this right as they make the change. Losing a good young player because they don't fit the scheme would be as bad as having to spend another high pick on a player to replace them. That's a 2-for-1 in terms of value lost.

Luckily for us most of our young guys fit

However the positions I outlined are obvious needs to make this work

I'm excited for Sheldon Richardson and Calvin Pryor in this defense though, literally perfect for both of them

I think we should address safety and CB in FA, but as for the other positions

Guys like Eli Harold, Bud Dupree, Eric Kendricks, Vic Beasley and Eric Striker all fit the mold.

Personally, I think Coples is best suited as a 4-3 DT. I think he'll play DE in a Quinn 4-3, though. I think it'd be hard to argue he'd devalue at all going from 3-4 OLB to 4-3 DE. Sheldon will play DT. Again, I don't think he'll devalue any. Wilk probably should play DT, but he'll probably play DE.

The biggest changes would be to guys like Ellis and Snacks. I think Snacks would be a waste in a 4-3. I think it may be prudent to resign Ellis (who is a very good NT in his own right) for DL depth and a NT to play on some 3-4 fronts which we will undoubtedly run. I would tender Snacks with a 1st, and hope someone signs him. Else, look to shop him.

Davis would be an OLB in a 4-3. We need another OLB and a MLB. Harris is too slow to be a MLB in a 4-3.

Our current team has quite a lot of holes.

    QB: Geno, Vick, Simms
    HB: Ivory, Johnson, Powell
    FB: Bohanon, Conner
    WR: Harvin, Decker, Kerley, Salas
    TE: Amaro, Cumberland, Sudfeld
    OT: Brick, Giacomini
    OG: Colon, Winters/Aboushi
    C: Mangold

DL: Wilkerson, Richardson, Coples, Harrison, Ellis, Douzable
    OLB: Babin, Reilly
    MLB: Harris, Davis
    CB: Milliner, McDougle, Wilson, Walls
    FS: Jarrett/Landry
    SS: Pryor

I'd argue that we'd need a QB, a HB to replace CJ2K, a WR (not retaining Harvin), immediate OG help, immediate OT help would be welcomed but the beginning of the development of OTs are necessary, OLB, MLB, CB, and FS. Also could probably use a DE/DT depending on where they play Wilk if they don't find value in keeping Harrison/Ellis in a 4-3.

We're in for quite the offseason.

I think Babin (or even IK?) could play that LEO position and the rest of the defensive line should be in place with the guys that are here.

I think Demario Davis would be the only keeper at LB as I'm not sure if Harris would be a fit. UCLA ILB Eric Kendricks could be an option at the top of the 2nd and then a free agent for the last spot such as Justin Durant, who would seem likely to hit the market. Plus at least two more signees for depth.

I really feel that the secondary just needs one more legitimate starter at CB such as Byron Maxwell or Tramon Williams. Might be good to add another CB in the mid/later rounds too.

I'd like to see Jarrett and Landry brought back to team with Pryor. Maybe Antonio Allen can have a rebound year with a new CS. I read an article that brought up Seahawks backup S Jeron Johnson, whose played well in spot duty, but is behind the best tandem of safeties in the league. Maybe Quinn takes him with him and let's him compete for a starting role

If Quinn is the guy I see the Jets investing heavy in FA towards the defensive back 7 and OL. I can see a starting S and CB being added. The draft will be about playmakers and look for a high pick being used on a LB regardless of FA. However if Mariota falls into their lap at #6............???
