I like that Macagnan has the scouting background. But let's acknowledge no one has any real idea how he will perform in a job he's never held before.

Of course that may be unavoidable given the options.

You're never going to get a solid experienced GM with no warts because they all have jobs and aren't going anywhere.

I can because they handed him the keys to the castle for two years no questions asked and if half this board predicted Geno busting from a mile away then shame on an NFL GM for not being able to see that.

I agree, and did not mean to imply I felt any differently. It's just that we have to acknowledge we are going to be guessing how well he will do.

Yes, I feel the same way. It was not a defensible position, and that was why Idzik attempted to cover himself by signing Vick, pretending there was a competition, and all that. He knew he was being criticized, that he was risking wasting yet another year with Smith, and he went ahead and did it anyway.

Having said that, I feel like we should start talking less about Idzik. He's gone, and I have not seen any news suggesting anyone wanted to or wants to look at him as a possible candidate for an open GM position. Tells you something.

They should've either just flat out started Sanchez or bring in a legit veteran (not Garrard). Geno needed to sit for a year. But the catch 22 was that we needed to see what he could do right away so we can know whether to move on quickly or not. He showed improvement at the end of 2013, so he got another year. This season he improved but not at the rate we were all hoping for. The book isn't written on him yet, but to me he looks like a good backup but hopefully he proves himself to be a little more than that.

It was really frustrating to see Geno look so bad and then have a perfect game against Miami's top 5 secondary. Where did that come from? Geno has all the physical talent he needs to be successful, he is the right type of QB for this era, but he is a walking turnover and inconsistent as a passer. By the looks of things, Geno is gonna have a chance to win the job next year unless they go out and get a big name like Cutler. I am still holding out a bit of hope for Geno because if he can turn things around, that's filling a huge hole on this team. That said, someone competent needs to be brought it in to compete with him, and I mean a legit QB.

Yeah I agree I mean he had some decent games this year but he always had that one or two boneheaded mistake that leaves you shaking your head. His decision making must improve even if he's not the most accurate but good decision making can carry him a long way. More than likely he will have to earn the job this year. Bring in a Hoyer, McCoy, Moore etc draft a mid round qb and may the best man win.
