If Woody can wait, then Dan Quinn will be the next coach of the Jets. Dan Quinn wants to come home to New Jersey and be a HC. Working in your back yard is what people strive for. The new GM, when signed and announced supposedly Maccagnan, is okay with the idea of Quinn as HC.

Anything can happen within the next 3 weeks. I hope it's all true and they bring Dan home.

You could say that many teams are more attractive than the Jets. Who is Blank waiting on? He didn't want Rex. If anyone thinks Quinn is a lock, their crazy.

I just Quinn doesnt turn out to be like Philbin of the Dolphins. A great Coordinator who lacks things to be a great head coach, sort of like Rex

There's something really wrong with the hiring process if you can't even talk to a coach and get his vibe, while his team is in the playoffs. That decision should be at the discretion of his employer not the NFL.

I understand there are ways to get around it but it's awfully ridiculous to hinder a team looking to hire or a coach looking to get hired by doing this.

They should be allowed to talk the day after the current game , this is total bullshit.

Is he truly finished or was there an injury we don't know about???? That is the question. or both could be possible. He did look finished down the stretch this year. If there was something wrong with his arm maybe he could recover and bounce back. If not...then yikes he should hang them up

Even if it was an injury doesn't it seem like a scary place to take over as a HC? You have a legend who may or may not be finished but wants to keep going. Maybe he had an injury that caused his quick downfall. As a relatively older QB he's going to be more injury prone. The reason he's on the Broncos to begin with was an injury. Is his body starting to break down?

Do you want to be the HC that has to bench Peyton Manning for some schmuck who will never be as good as Peyton?

If Peyton does retire I wonder if he would take an OC position. He has practically been an OC for the last decade so why not.

Specifically: Peyton Manning has a torn rectus femoris, which runs down center of thigh. Bruising was so severe it spread to back of his leg

Can't do that. The playoff teams need their coaches undivided attention at the most important time of the year. It's unfortunate but it is what it is. What the NFL could do to prevent the problem is to forbid any coach from making a commitment until the day after the Super Bowl. That would hang some of the teams trying to make changes out to dry but it would preserve the integrity of the process. The rule could be that no coach under contract may be approached until the league year is finished for all teams.

it's naive as is though to suggest that as the rules are right now that playoff teams are getting their coaches' undivided attention. Of course Quinn is thinking about the Jets job right now, to suggest otherwise is silly.

Placing a rule where nobody can hire anyone until after the SB would just put us in the same situation as we are right now. fake.

The rule would be that nobody can hire a coach under contract to another NFL team until the day after the Super Bowl. College coaches and broadcasters and coaches fired by another team or otherwise unemployed would be fair game.

It would just put Bowles and Quinn under the same restriction. It would make the competition for the really attractive NFL candidates begin a month later. It would make the musical chairs aspect of the whole thing go away. That would be a good thing.
