wat. dee milliner hurt, dex mcdougle hurt, and shaq evans hurt.

sheldon richardson is an all-pro, oday aboushi has been a fine starter, geno smith was 100% the right pick at the time, and we don't know what we have in our later round picks that were drafted to be brought in slowly because they were late picks. also jace will be a good TE

To be fair, if Idzik really thought Geno was a franchise Qb, he would have drafted him at our 9th pick or our 13th. Geno wasn't our franchise Qb pick; he was a value pick.

That being said, it's not worth looking back now. Onward and upward.

If Idzik really thought Geno Smith was his franchise QB do you really think he'd have left £20M in cap space unused? Ever considered Idzik didn't go all in because he was far from sure that Geno was the man...

C'mon Guys, we really don't know how much say Maccagnan had in picking players on the draft, but I'd say nothing, as by us for Bradway.
Let's give a clear start for him!

Is this the Idzik sour grapes thread? You guys want a tissue or a hug?

Most of you cried that it was too early to tell on Idzik after 2 years but you aren't giving Maccagnan 2 days...

With 1st time General Managers its almost impossible for your average fan to tell how they will really do in the job. At least with 1st time coaches we can judge how the unit they oversaw looked. With Maccagnan, we have no idea the dynamics of the front office in houston. The players they ultimately drafted may or may not be the players he recommended. He may have had different feelings/philosophies about free agency there as well. Who knows. Woody and his consulting team hopefully do though, because that's what interviews are for.

At least he has a background scouting players and using his eyes on football talent instead of on contracts and spreadsheets like Idzik. Oh - that's right Idzik spend 1 season as a position coach for a D3 team. Throw that other stuff out the window I guess. (sarcasm for the brainless, who are common in this thread)

I'm not defending Idzik, but nobody drafts a QB in the second round and says they are a franchise QB. What other QBs drafted in the two years Idzik was in charge were franchise guys? None.

I'm open to any GM we take. At least this time we had people with solid NFL experiences doing the search for us. This alone makes it a better pick than Idzick..

I guess this draft is going to come down to his interpretation of Bradway and co's draft reports.

Don't insist on starting him from day one then and bringing in zero real competition

Too early to say one way or the other considering that its too early to judge any of his drafts.

That is where Idzik was wrong - insisting on the starter. But if he or Rex or anyone thought Geno was a franchise QB there would not have been a debate who should be the starter.

They needed to see what they had in him. In hindsight it was the right decision, Geno was the better QB this year.

Yeah I thought this was supposed to be an evaluation of Maccagnan, its devolved into Idzik lovers with an agenda to push. It really doesn't matter because he's our GM now, get over it or root for the team that hires Idzik in their organization. Don't hold your breath though...

We won't know just how bad Idzik was at drafting until a year or two from now - however, early returns are indicative of a complete lack of acumen both in the scouting department and at the top (i.e. Idzik). His handling of free agency, inability to address positions of need and questionable free agent signings (when there were actual signings) all add up to someone not cut out for the Big Chair. So, in other words, it's going to be tough for Maccagnan to be worse. In other words, he'd have to make a concerted effort to be a worse GM than Idzik.

He didn't do anything amazing ,If Dee Millner ,Mcdougle and Shaq Evans all turn into pro bowlers then I'll give him credit.I honestly am not expecting to see much out of all three .Sheldon Richardson was a Rex pick ,Pryor was a Rex pick ,and Millner is the only one I'm not sure about, the coach has a major Influence on the draft board especially a coach who has had success in the league

Idzik is gone. Lets talk about the new guy.

I know nothing about him lol. The negative articles are already starting to pop up regarding his draft though. I wonder if the www.firemikemaccagnan.com domain available lol,.

People are so quick to forget that we got Geno (who many pegged as a clearcut 1st rounder) in the 2nd round! I don't blame Idzik at all for that pick, we needed a QB and Geno in round 2 was a tremendous value. It didn't work out, but you can't bag on Idzik for taking what looked to be the BPA AND a position of need at a discount.

The problem with this is QB is way too important to rely on value picks. The logic makes sense if you're looking for a long term backup, but when you pick a guy like that and give him the keys to the car, it's going to blow up when it doesn't work out.
