I am also against Cutler and against Mariotta or Winston. My preference would be: Either Bradford (if he become available) or Locker along with a round 3-6 QB draft pick to compete with Simms such as Grayson or Petty. The problem is the FA QB list is quite bad and the QB draft class if Cook does not come out is very weak. It appears to be a bad year to be looking for a QB. I am not optimistic on Geno but it appears likely he will be our QB next year which means we need to focus on surrounding him wit better OL and WR talent or its going to be another frustrating long year. I don't think the kid can mentally hold up for another year with our OL. He may not be as mentally fragile as Sanchez was here but he is not good.
No big splash at Qb for 2015. You take the Vick money and spend it on a good vet like a Hoyer. And go with Geno as backup and Simms no. 3. You would think with Simms on the PS and available to other teams someone would grab him. If the Cardinals had instead of Lindley they would have had a better chance to be competitive. They went with someone who had been unsuccessful but who knew their system. Coaches are very conservative incl. Arians in that area.
well thats because simms isn't that special. other teams had their backups set in stone and didn't need to go poaching marginal backups that were unfamiliar with their system, least of all arizona and their 3 backups. also he was signed off the ps sometime before the pitt game i believe so i don't think they had that choice when things went bad.
I think not getting a better solution at Qb from their GM is a fire-able offense. Just imagine if that had happened here. It took a 9-1 team from being very competitive to losing all of their games with Lindley as the starter. He had played poorly for them previously and they'd cut him. I just mention Simms because he's a better Qb than Lindley and I think even without training in their system would have given them a better chance to win.
Cutlers smug ass sourpuss face in NY, talk about clusterfuck soup. ...thing is, dude has crazy talent if he actually gave a shit*smh* If he couldn't do damage with the weapons he had in Chicago, what's he gonna do here. I honestly don't see him getting out of Chicago anyways.
Cutler does not suck. The stats support my pov. He's having trouble in Chicago because they overpaid him and their FO's buyer's remorse expresssions rubbed him the wrong way, understandably. Their running game went in the toilet, receivers injured, and their D tanked, yet everyone was blaming him for the poor season due to his contract. He needs a change of scenery. Whether he would be a good deal for the Jets financially would depend on the terms, but the Jets would be stupid not to explore the possibility of getting him as a hold the fort guy until they can draft a good Qb prospect.
Qeustion... If Payton is released (there has been speculation), do we go after him? I know he's not the QB he once was, but he's still better than anything we've sniffed in 20 years. Could he be the stop gap QB to help turn the corner for this team? 2 years, someone to mentor whoever we may bring in and we get decent QB play.
I've watched the guy play. Stats without context only tell a part of the story. Cutler has been blessed to be surrounded by phenomenal talent throughout his career. You hate Mark Sanchez? This guy makes Mark Sanchez look like Steve Young. Unless your evaluation begins and ends with buttfumbles, there is no one in the league who is as adept as Cutler at murdering a teams momentum and making negative plays in the worst moments. He's also a douche with a me first attitude to boot, despite having done nothing to earn that entitlement. Fact is, Cutler was a great prospect coming out of college, and has an arm that would make most other quarterbacks blush. At one point Kyle Boller could claim the same. If the Jets attempt to "fix" Cutler they would be fulfilling the definition of insanity. Two teams with superior offensive talent have failed to do so, what makes you believe the Jets will succeed where these others have failed? Cutler is not the answer. Not in the short term, and certainly not in the long term.
Jay Cutler is talented but he has a terrible contract, and for his production it's not worth it. His attitude and personality would be a bad mix in this market. If he couldn't get it done with Bennett, Forte, Marshall, and Jeffery. Then he's going to get it done with Decker, Kerley, and Ivory? If we want a hold the fort guy lets go get a Hoyer.
It's 99% not going to happen but if that's the case we sign this beast, hire Gase, then load up the team in FA to go chasing us a SB ring.
It's not happening and if it does, he's retiring. People act like Peyton is young still. If he's cut, he's retiring. Plain and simple. He will be 39 years old next season. He couldn't win a championship in Denver with that stacked offense. You honestly believe he will go to the Jets and think about winning it? Lol Its not about the money anymore for him. It's about one last ring to end his career. There isn't much of a better offense in the NFL than Denver. This is his last go. If it fails, he's packing it in.
I was thinking along the same lines. I don't think Simms was on the PS when the Cards #2 went down. And I think it was too late to make a trade. Else, he would have been a good pickup for them. Lindley was as awful as can be--made Geno look good.
