So what's taking so long appointing this guy GM. Woody's fear of looking bad again. Which seems to be his criterion for making decisions. And all the conditions this guy would have to agree to that would diminish his power and decrease his ability to do a good job. And to stay employed. Woody's not willing to give anyone other than himself keys to the franchise.
You consider my correct prediction of a week ago (before he even interviewed - hell, before ANYONE even interviewed) that a no-name personnel guy in Houston, who got zero interviews anywhere else, would get the GM job to be a "conspiracy theory"? LMAO.
Behaving like a competent professional sports organization. That means a commitment to nothing other than winning a championship as quickly as reasonably possible ... and then maintaining a level of quality that allows the team to be in the "championship-level" discussion at the start of every season and occasionally to be the favorite to win the championship at the start of a season. It means hiring the most qualified person you can to each and every position in the organization. And it means recognizing when a current employee is not the most qualified person available quickly and get rid of them. It means hiring people with demonstrated records of success and paying them whatever it takes to get them because you realize investing in quality is the best way to make money. In other words, do the exact opposite of what the team has done for the last 30 years.
I admit, I remember you predicting Macgagnon (or however you spell is name). That being said, he was also an up-and-coming name who makes a lot of sense. Not some fake GM process secretly pushed through by Casserly. He was just the best guy for the job and had mutual interest. A great pick after our failure with Idzik.
There isn't one Jets fan worldwide who doesn't want all that, the problem is all Jets fans have at the moment is HOPE. Hope that the new gm and HC team are the ones who will finally deliver all that. The same hope that fans had two years ago when Idzik was appointed and all knockers of that move were met with derision at the time. At the moment fans are filled with ideas that this is finally it and they are not going to allow you to extinguish that hope before the season begins. Weather this hope is justified or not only time will tell but if it turns out not to be and changes are made again in another two years time the cycle will just start again, as it's the hope that kills you in the end
If you want to pretend a less-qualified candidate is the most-qualified candidate because acknowledging reality is less fun than pretending the Jets are a competently run organization? That's on you. I choose to acknowledge reality and demand excellence from the team. I'm an entertainment consumer, not a cheerleader - I expect and demand quality and effort. Fellow fans that accept far-less-than-excellence provide cover for the ownership (and front office) to be content despite being championship-competitive; these fans are actually part of the problem, not the solution. Sorry, that's the truth. I reserve the right to generally hold them in disdain and, from time to time, mock them for their willingness to accept mediocrity from a billionaire trustfund baby that takes them for granted and thinks they are stupid. Personally, I'd be embarrassed to be thought of that way, but lots of people obviously eat it up.
Who are the more qualified candidates? Just because Casserly likes the guy doesn't mean he isn't a good candidate. I'm not saying he is a good candidate (fucked if I know) but you seem really jaded.
Sorry buddy, but as of this moment, you have no clue or insight as to how qualified or not he is. So it is nothing more than an opinion, and people with a lot more football knowledge seem to think otherwise. Time will tell, and I don't mean a year or two without stability between the coach and the GM, like we have done in the past. That is not how great organizations are built. Who out there based on your own criteria was more qualified at this point and willing to come to the Jets is a subject of much debate. Even among the so called experts there has been as many differing opinions as candidates. Add the media BS, and inputs from all the fans who don't have a clue and we have the typical sea of negativity no matter who the hell we pick. Not because of the person, but because of our own shitty track record. Some fans are just laughable. If part of the criteria is hiring a guy whose résumé includes finding a HOF QB like many expected, well that narrows the field to zero. Most of these selections were as much luck as skill. Andrew Luck was the first in about 15 years with such clear cant miss qualifications and it did not take a good GM to figure that out....just to be there with the number #1 pick.
