Because Casserly told Woody to hurry up and hire Marrone (before someone else races to hire him - in fact, we had to hire him before hiring a GM because he was in such high demand) ... and Woody said "no". But watch, he's still going to get hired. They'll hire Maccagan and then Maccagan will advise Woody to hire Marrone and that will be the hire.

Pure speculation. I could see Marrone going to Houston, but there was a report out there early on that he may not necessarily be looking for a head coaching gig. Especially since he gets the $4mm anyway, that he'd be looking for some stability.

You keep saying Casserly had a poor career as a GM but he won a superbowl as a GM with the redskins. He didn't do great with the Texans but he did draft a handful of probowlers there.

He won a Super Bowl with Bobby Beathard's players (in Year Two) and the team got progressively worse for the next decade after that Super Bowl. Then he went to Houston and they were terrible for four years. He has not had a good career as a GM; he was lucky that he was Beathard's #2 and that Beathard retired with the cupboard full and a Hall of Fame coach in place. The only two players Casserly acquired who played a role on the Super Bowl team were Andre Collins (starting LB he drafted in the first round) and Brian Mitchell (the kick returner).

I do. It suggests to me that nobody else in the league thinks he's qualified enough to even merit an interview.

Sorry, something got lost through the quotes. I said I could see Marrone coming to NY as OL/Asst. HC, and the previous guy said he was going to Houston to be an assistant coach.

He was assistant GM with Beathard in starting in '82. I have to assume that as assistant GM he had some input into those teams from 82 forward. He took over as GM in '89 and they won their 3rd superbowl in 91, his third year.

You sound like you have some severe psychological problems, and you may want to seek out some help.

Beathard retired a couple weeks after the 1989 draft. Casserly ran two drafts that impacted the Redskin's Super Bowl win in 1992. He acquired two players that saw significant playing time on that team - a starting outside linebacker and a kick returner. The other 21 starters were acquired by Beathard.

I didn't know that. So what was Casserly doing from 82-89?

When was the last time Maccagnan drafted a franchise QB? Has he ever?

Texans drafted David Carr, moved on to Matt "pick-6" Schaub, and have been most recently slumming it with Ryan fitz, case Keenum, Tom savage and ryan Mallett.

Biggest need on Jets will continue to get botched / unaddressed until we get a real GM in here.

Mac never made the final call on draft day, it was the Houston GM. He scouted the players, and for the most part those players he drafted instead of the QB in those rounds worked out.

Houston does have a QB problem, but that can't all be on this guy now...

I wonder if this unnamed source is the same one everybody seems to have a problem with Mehta using?
