This is about as typical a NY Jets move/thing as ever.

I loved rex's football mind. He brought very extreme/unique positives to the table. At the same time, his ability to fill the role of "Head Coach" was very much in question in my mind. His performance as a head coach was analogous to a top-prospect with all the skills who just hasn't put it together the way the scouting reports and his skills/talents suggested he was capable of.

With those types of players there will be someone giving them another chance time after time because their raw skills are so impressive. However, the skills and talents need to match the output in order for them to actually have legitimate value.

While I loved his skills/talents as a coach (though not specifically a head coach), I'm totally fine with moving on from him. If he puts it together in Buffalo then I'll be happy for him. I'm just not convinced that its probable from what I've seen - Rex is the AJ Burnett of coaching.

I'm not a Rex fan and glad he isn't with the Jets but think he could be a good fit for the 2015 Bills. As for long term I don't know. Based on what he did here, no. He will inherit a team with a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. And with some new additions (they don't have a 1st round pick as of now) they should be a playoff contender. I've heard different rumors on who he'll bring in as OC: Trestman or Greg Roman. (btw Roman was ripped by fans and critics in the Bay area this past season for being unimaginative and the 49ers O underperformed). I think a ground and pound could work for the Bills and be successful. Buff has two good running backs in Spiller and Jackson. They have a good TE in Chandler plus Sammy Watkins, etc. If Rex does bring back Mark Sanchez it could work if they stick with the ground and pound. I still believe Mark can't operate as a full service throwing Qb but in a ground and pound he was ok in New York. According to ESPN the Bills org wanted to keep Schwartz as DC and Rex talked to him about it. But they also speculated that Rex likes a 3-4 and Schwartz prefers a 4-3. And as we all know Rex wants to be in charge of the defense. I could see him bringing in Thurmond a guy he trusts and is on the same page with. Rex can also keep some of his pet phases like kissing Belichick's rings. Which is exactly what he'll be doing.

Well stated post but I could take this post...remove Rex's name, put Bellicheck in there and move it to when he just got fired from Cleveland. In fact, you could put a few HC's names in there. There really is just no way for people to say he's going to fail. To use your own words...his talent alone dictates that he will be successful eventually....and being a HC he doesn't have to worry about injuries. LOL

I really wish rex doesn't take this job, and not just cause it's a division team. I like rex and felt he did some real good things and has potential to be a real good coach, I can't understand why he would jump into another situation where the qb situation is a mess.. He's putting himself in the same no win situation..

We'll see if he has grown as a coach...the smart money would be to keep Schwartz... TWO top defensive minds are better than one.

I guess we'll see how much Rex has grown right away...the smart money is to keep Schwartz has the DC...
To beat the hell out of the Jets 2 X's a year. Revenge is a very real thing.

He had to go. You just have to get over that part. He didn't go because the Jets were 4-12. He went because the Jets were a disorganized mess 4-12. Coaching matters.

Schwartz who has recently been a head coach doesn't want to be a proxy DC like Thurmond was with us. He wants to plan the D and make D calls. And Rex wants to do the same thing. To me: Schwartz is a better D coach and he has things going full throttle with their D. Rex is not a genius in any way, shape or form and anyone who calls him a genius is a dunce. But with the Bills D they can play well in spite of Rex.

Because Woody didn't fire Rex with Tannenbaum, hired an ass hat like Idzik, allowed Idzik to sabotage Ryan last year and then fired Ryan because he had no choice after Idzik hung him out to dry. The whole chain of events. I'm telling you. A guy like Ryan fosters things like grudges and the way it all played out there's no choice but to have a grudge...I dont' know...the whole thing just sucks.

Had Ryan gone to Atlanta or San Fran it wouldn't be such an issue but inter division...not good.

Wrong. 27.5 million is a real thing. He is probably grateful to Woody for hiring him when he couldn't get a HC

That statement alone proves that you have no idea what you are talking about. In 16 years of running a defense Rex Ryan as never been lower than 11. Stop talking...you are only proving how much you have no idea.

Speak for yourself Im thrilled. Means we have 2 wins a year because the Bills will make bonehead plays, take stupid penalties, mismanage the clock

I can agree....coaching does matter...it helps when you do have talent though...I think we can all agree on that. We'll see how much talent matters this coming year. We'll see...I'm done commenting on this because it's clear no one else sees this as another Bellichik situation....or similar anyway.

And don't forget that wasted pick when the Jets selected Sanchez' buddy in the draft just to make Sanchez happy. It was a complete waste of a pick brought to you by Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum. How can you forget Tim Tebow, the highest paid punt protector in NFL history. Thanks Rex and Mike.

Thurman is gone..will probably be the secondary coach there..Wouldn't be surprised if Dunbar is announced in the new staff as well.
This situation goes from bad to nightmare if they land Revis in FA.

Glad Rex will be in our division. He got his ass kicked twice last season vs the Bills. I know his joke has been: If you can't beat them join them. Exactly. Except I don't expect to get outcoached by him no matter who our head coach is. Probably Quinn who you expect not to be a glorified DC but a true HC.
