i truly hope he is not there when we pick, and that another talent drops as a result. i don't want the Jets even tempted to select Winston.
Hasn't impressed who? YOU? THE ONLY REASON FSU WAS UNDEFEATED WAS BECAUSE OF JAMEIS WINSTON. Too disagree would be ludicrous. The defense has been trash all season, the secondary goes for typical college big hits, can't wrap up at all, there is zero coverage from any CB, Jalen Ramsey is the only one with a brain back there and the Dline is tissue paper. The WRs were incredibly mediocore at best, seeing how they were almost ALL true freshman except Rashad and clown ass Bobo Nick O'Leary had an off year imo The O-Line was very good but at times let Jameis be swallowed almost instantly Karlos Williams has no brain, runs right into defenders and has no ability to do anything but run straight. Dalvin was better than expected but most in part due to O-Line blocking. Jameis Winston won us every close game. FSU got extremely lucky playing Clemson earlier because if they had that one kid in at QB earlier in the season and he came in ready against FSU we would have lost. but yes he "didn't impress"
Winston is the best QB in the draft. And the best QB to come out since Luck. Thats my opinion and I think it will all be made true very soon. He is better than Mariota and better than any prospect in a long time other than Andrew Luck. We are fuckin fools if we don't take him if he's available.
Todd McShay declares Winston the best player in the entire draft. "When asked on SportsCenter what he thinks of Winston in this class, McShay notes that he believes the Florida State Seminoles Heisman-winning quarterback is the best player in the entire group, some of which have yet to officially declare. "On field, b/w the lines (Winston) is best QB & best player" in this draft class - @McShay13 on @SportsCenter Now this is only one opinion of many, but there are a lot of people that feel this way, and have made those feelings known." We need this guy!!!!
Good news. I prefer him over Mariota but I think he will be picked up by Tampa. If not Tampa then at least by another team picking ahead of us. At least this will increase chances of a great player to be there for the Jets to pick.
I'm not the biggest Winston fan, but if he's there at six he needs to be taken. It's very very early, but I have a feeling that Tampa will take Winston at one...
At the combine Winston is going to have a Wonderlic of about 18. He's going to make a lot of really nice deep throws and everybody is going to be watching the hitch in his motion as he does that. He's going to interview passably but an interview that would make you lust after a pass-rushing OLB isn't going to make you lust after a QB. I could see him going anywhere from 1 to 36, depending on how he handles the pressure of the evaluation process and the combine, depending on the advice he gets (throw at the combine Jameis - it's your best chance to get picked up high - it worked for Bortles last year even though he didn't do so well), and unfortunately depending on what happens with the lawsuit against FSU between now and then. Ben Roethlisberger was the #2 QB in the 2004 draft but the issues hanging over him pushed him down to the Steelers at 11.
Please don't draft the kid, there are too many red flags. 1. Off the field trouble. 2. Lack of common sense. 3. Trouble reading defenses. 4. His mechanics need work. His throwing motion resembles the baseball pitcher he doubles as, and it needs to be shortened considerably or NFL defensive backs will have a field day. 5. Tied for second this year for college QBs with most interceptions at 18. What will it be in the pros? His stats this year were BAD! With all these red flags it would be stupid to draft this immature kid in the 1st round.
I really don't like the idea of drafting him with our 6th overall pick...however, if he happens to fall into the second round or say we trade down and he's available later in the first round it becomes are more interesting pick of value and need vs bust potential.
The things that bother me are 1 and 4. The off the field stuff is going to get a LOT of play in the next few months with an active lawsuit against FSU by the woman who says he raped her. The FSU athletic department can't cover anything up in a discovery process. The odds are really good that very disturbing new material will come to light. Think Ray Rice - Elevator - Fiance before the tape and after as a reference point. It's possible that action on the case will get delayed until after the draft but that's just a possibility and team security staffs are going to do whatever they can to get the info before their team has to make a choice. On the mechanics, I haven't watched enough of him to get a feel for whether they're going to be a real issue. That said, there is no QB in the NFL currently who is as likely to throw 25 picks next year as Winston. The NFL is faster and quicker than NCAA football. Whatever caused the picks for Winston at FSU is going to get picked apart on tape by NFL defenses and they're likely to feast on him next year.
Well hopefully his NFL caliber receivers won't be running the wrong routes or having balls bounce off their hands.
So what you're saying is that he's going to lock in on Eric Decker on most plays because he's the guy who almost never runs the wrong route and rarely drops a ball? All I'm saying on the performance side is that things aren't going to get easier for him next year as a rookie in the NFL than they were at FSU this year. Things are going to get harder. Ideally he'd sit the whole season and get a good look at the game before he got thrown into the mix. Here with the Jets he'll be on the field by game 4. Geno isn't going to become a dynamic decision-making machine overnight even in a new Shanahan inspired offense. If anything the transition to the new scheme is likely to set him back. So after 1-2 in 3 starts here comes Winston onto the field and he's the only one in the organization whose head is spinning faster than Geno.
I think if you go back to RG3's rookie year, he made things very easy for RG3 earlier in the year [easy throws and such] and let him grow in the offense and increase his confidence. Also consider the fact that Winston had 2 freshman receivers playing huge roles. If the Jets have to draft any QB in this draft it's either Winston or Petty.
