I think Geno will be the starter. I do not understand the why fans of the Jets expect a young man to come in the league and be great without experience. It takes time to grow into an NFL signal caller. With proper coaching and a head man who understands the position he can do well.
You're right, not like the guy got better in each of his 4 NFL seasons and was on pace for 30 TD in his 4th NFL season (WITH FUCKING BRIAN SCHOTTENHEIMER AS HIS OC). Definitely 10 guys who can do that in the NFL in 2015. Oh wait, what's that, there aren't 10 guys that can throw 30 TD's and have a QB rating over 90? So, it must be that he had all these amazing wr's right. Oh wait, that's not it either - he had no good wr's or hb's. Yup, you are right man...I definitely suck at this. I know, lets have him go to the Bills and be a top 10 qb there while we go 2-14 with Geno Smith 2.0 (my bad again - Jameis Winston) next year.
My only issue with Cutler is his contract. He lightyears better than anybody we have had in a long time. Give em 2 years with a 3rd year team option. The way things are looking, that's the only chance we can escape having a shitty QB. The other QB's out there honestly aren't THAT much better than Geno, I would like to know how Geno would've played in STL or Cleveland this year, i bet better than here. Unless winston or mariota slip our play from QB will probably stay at the same level it's at.
In bold: If you watch other teams outside of the jets. you'll come to find that neither one of those are stats that WOW anybody anymore. 9 almost 11 QB's thrown over 30 TD's, 13 had ratings over 90, even Eli. The way the NFL is set up for passing success now 28 TD's and an 88.6 rating (Jay Cutler) makes you below average. lol.
You don't think that a healthy Bradford could start over Geno? Bradford has talent and it may not take a lot to get him. It would make for reasonable competition next year. From what I have seen of the two, Bradford has more upside.
That was his 4th year with Schotty as OC. He will be 28 this year - still had room to grow. But I will tell you who will never, ever, ever have 30 TD's and a 90 QBR rating in a season - Jameis "The Guaranteed Bust" Winston...
Well said....isn't it sad how some of these immature adolescent fans can't engage in an intelligent discussion without hurling childish insults at those with a differing opinion.
I just don't want the Jets to waist a pick on Winston. He has slow wits and slow feet. Too many red flags. 1. Off the field trouble. 2. Lack of common sense. 3. Trouble reading defenses. 4. His mechanics need work. His throwing motion resembles the baseball pitcher he doubles as, and it needs to be shortened considerably or NFL defensive backs will have a field day. 5. Tied for second this year for college QBs with most interceptions at 18. What will it be in the NFL? His college stats this year were BAD! He benefitted from being on a good team. The Jets are not a good team and he is not a good QB. All those people wanting Winston are the same ones that cheered when we drafted Smith. With all these red flags it would be stupid to draft this immature kid in the 1st round. The Bucs will draft a QB, so trading for Glennon would be the cheapest and best option. There are no good veteran QBs available.
How can you possibly way Winston benefited this year from being on a good team? Whether or not your claims are true, he was clearly one of the main reasons his team went undefeated in the regular season. His team around him was mediocre at best.
I'm holding out hope that STL releases Bradford. If not him, maybe Colt McCoy. If we still suck next year we will be in play for Cook or Hackenberg, I think Mariota and Winston will both be gone by our pick.
Lets look at the team he has supporting him. These are the other players you called "mediocre at best" ranked in thousands of college players. Remember, these are just the ones coming out in the DRAFT THIS YEAR! Top 15 RB - Karlos Williams 6-0 220 Top 10 WR - Rashad Greene 5-11 180 Top 3 TE - Nick O'Leary 6-3 245 TWO Top 5 OGs - Josue Matias 6-5 330 & Tre Jackson 6-3 340 #1 Ranked C - Cameron Erving 6-5 310 Top 10 DE - Mario Edwards 6-3 295 Top 3 DT - Eddie Goldman 6-3 315 Top 10 LB - Terrance Smith 6-2 230 Top 3 CB - PJ Williams 5-11 195 Yep, you know football. Florida State will have 11 players selected in the first half of the draft and you say he didn't have any talent around him.
You make a good argument and maybe mediocre isn't the right word. To be ranked 4th in the country, a team has to have some good pieces. That being said, I think Winston had much more to do with the team's success than you are giving him credit. And his skill positions (which are crucial for a Qb) really were mediocre for the most part. One decent wide receiver and a tight end does not make a great swath of weapons. Compared to his rookie year, Winston had very little talent at the skill positions this year. If you watched the Oregon game you could see the impact of his 3 freshman receivers and fumble-prone backs. Winston didn't lose that game; his team did. I can't really speak for the defense, so maybe you're right on that end.
Translation: give me the white guy who can't lead a team and led the NCAA in interceptions his senior year over the black guy who I don't like who led the NCAA in interceptions his sophomore year. You're really transparent.
Haha I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but when you put it like that... Reminds me of when Cam Newton was being scouted.
I have no idea if Winston is a good pick or not but I know he's 10x the QB Glennon will ever be. It's not like TB is rolling in QB talent and they already spent a 3rd rounder on the guy. They just realize that he can't lead a team on an NFL field.
