The best scout might not make the best GM and the best capologist DEFINITELY does not make the best gm (see Idzik, John). If we were to follow this strategy as well who would your candidates be for Cap guy/Draft guy? we will see how it works in ATL but it seems to work great in Balt (newsome/decosta). its also kind of interesting, and I may be reading this wrong but it seems pioli reports to demitroff who reports to the owner... but the new coach will report directly to the owner? weird. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...es-involving-scott-pioli-and-thomas-dimitroff
Yea I could see it working for them because Pioli and Dimitrof are close freinds,Any where else?who knows
Something like this has little chance of working..too many cooks in the kitchen. If Im Dimitrof I quit. Yeah he's very overrated as a GM but he could easily land another job based on his name and little else.
Anyone can GM the Jets to great success and make excellent draft picks. All they have to do is log into TGG on a daily basis then ignore 100% of what they read.
It wont work because the personell guy will want every player while the cap guy would deny him the players because of the costs.....its just a weird dynamic, I dont like it.
That type pf arrangement worked well with us with Bradway and Tannenbaum. There were problems when they disagreed and the cap guy overruled the personnel guy to select players that only the head coach wanted but the scouts did not such as Ghoulston and Sanchez.
haha yeah i get the cooks in the kitchen thing but, to my knowledge, only one team had been doing it that way (baltimore) and it seems to work for them. I guess it depends on the relationship between the two people... if there is any kind of animosity it can turn bad quick.
Scott Pioli has been Asst. GM under Dimitroff for about a year. There were rumors they would both be fired after the season but apparently not. So this isn't really a big change. The rumor I read was that both of them did not favor Rex for the Atlanta HC job. We'll see.
It's sort of how the entire league should operate to an extent. I don't understand why these cap guys keep getting full general manager jobs handling player personnel decisions with little to no football background. I always thought you would have a GM pick the guys agree that they want them then let the accountant handle the paper work. It seems this is how Tannenbaum and Bradway worked before the switch.
I heard the interview lasted 5 hours....that doesn't really tell me it didn't go well.I love peoples "Rex Hate" propoganda
No hate Rex intended, bro. So don't get your dander up. I'm not attacking your boy. I read somewhere that Pioli and Dimitoff preferred another candidate. He had a 5 hour interview (with whom?) Plus he's getting a 2nd interview. He'll probably get the job but it seems like the owner is going to make the call.
Of course it can work. However, you need the right people to make it work. Dmitroff's been in Atlanta a long time and obviously likes it there. I'm sure he knew it was either relinquish personnel responsibilities or look for a new job.
Blank actually succeeded in creating and the building a business empire in Home Depot prior to buying the Falcons. Woody has no history of building anything.
Blank announced PSL prices between $10k and $45k at the new stadium he is building. If you think the Jets struggle to sell them wait until these go over like a lead balloon. I have three friends that are season ticket holders now and they all say there is no way they are paying that kind of PSL. Arthur needs to generate buzz and excitement down here. Which HC candidate can do that?
