Aren't Kay and Marrone good friends? Of course he's gonna defend his friend. All I know is after listening to WGR where they played an interview of some guy from Syracuse right after Marrone was hired.......the guy basically said everything Marrone was gonna do which he ended up doing.
I am not anti Marone but Rex is light years better than him and your long playoff drought would be over next year.
Please explain how Rex would make us better? #1 - Rex's expertise is defense and we already have a top 5 defense so we need Rex why? #2 - Rex runs a 3-4 , we dont have the personnel to run a 3-4.....we tried that in 2010-11 and it failed miserably. #3 - Our weakness is on offense and Rex has yet to develop a QB or put together a top flight offense. If we were to bring Rex in we'd be exactly where we are now........an 8-8/9-7 team with a bad offense......no thanks!
#1 he'd take your D to another level #2 Rex can adapt #3- Rex isn't an offensive guy but got more than enough out of his O's the first 2 years. you are a decent QB away(and Sanchez is a FA) from being a contender and #4- he instills a belief in his players, we didn't have the talent the last few years but you guys have it everywhere except QB. The man is a master motivator and would have you as legit SB contenders year 1 very much like us in 2009.
This is what I expect to hear from Bills fans who think that Marrone is a shitty coach. If he sucks you hope the Jets hire him. And btw your not wanting RR is another smart move.
So Rex making us better is based off what he did his first 2 years with the Jets and not his last 4 years? Total Offense rankings Jets under Rex: 2014-#22 2013-#25 2012-#30 2011-#25 2010-#11 2009- #20 Thats exactly what we need in Buffalo........another coach who cant develop a QB. I like Rex but he'd be a terrible fit in Buffalo.......he's just not what we need. Rex in Atlanta makes perfect sense.......he can rebuild that defense and the offense is already set to win now.
The QB situation makes me think Rex wouldn't be your best fit. He won't really help in that dept. Than again though, I'm not sure there are any coaches that can help in that dept until you find someone at least capable at the position. The Jets are in the same boat in that regard.
2012 and 2013 were his 2 best coaching jobs though it wasn't always reflected in the records. 2009 had rookie QB 2011 were 13th in pts 2012 has Clyde Gates, Chaz Schiens and Stephen Hill starting at different points of season. add in Sparano and Tebow and you get the idea. 2013 had rookie Geno who wasn't ready and miraculously won 8 games 2014- QB play was awful the QB was developing fine here until we gave him no talent and changed OCs in 2012 then foolishly fired the GM and our new GM brought in Geno and got Mark hurt. Buffalo has everything except a QB and if you think Sanchez sucked well Rex beat Manning, Brady and Rivers led teams on the road in postseason w/ Mark as our QB.
Exactly my point. Worst case scenerio we have to play EJ this year we at least need a guy that can come in a design an offense that can mask some of his weaknesses............I'm not confident Rex could bring in a guy to help in that department due to the fact in 6 NFL seasons he couldn't do it!
Rex has proven he doesn't need an elite QB to win, how many others can say that? Not BB, not McCarthy. I guess maybe the Harbaughs and Carroll?
except that he made 2 title games w/ Mark Sanchez who everyone thinks sucks so if he sucks he can clearly win w/ less than stellar QB play.
Well in fairness, the Jets were able to mask QB deficiencies under Rex in a few different seasons, and still come out with Wins (even post season Wins). As Junc points out above, not many coaches have been able to do that. My point is this....When you have really bad QB options, there is only so much any coach can do. Changing coaches doesn't change that reality. And i believe that is the reality that both the Bills and the Jets are currently in.
Frankly I think you can consider Wilson a top QB. His top target this season was Doug Baldwin more or less and he still could move the ball. Having Marshawn Lynch helps, but Wilson is an excellent QB that deals with "bleh" WRs and a deceptively shitty offensive line.
If the the Jets and fans are so enamored with Marrone - go for it. Who cares what one reporter has to say? What's interesting is the Jets offense is similar (maybe even better) to the Bills... Marrone is an offensive minded coach - and the Bills offense did not produce for two years under Marrone. Where there is smoke - there is fire...
