I liked him as a GM but he really did make some bad decisions but I still feel that they weren't all his calls .Woody and Rex and a lot of influence on some of these moves
He gave out one of the worst deals in the franchise's history to one of the worst QBs in the league. He gave out a terrible deal to a locker room cancer of a WR that wasn't even the best WR on the team. He then went and replaced the best WR on the team along with the most sure-handed WR on the team with Plax and Derrick Mason. He made the team worse every single year. There is no arguing that.
He was once the VP of Football operations for the NY Jets, looks like the Dolphins are building the blocks for him to be the future GM if they fail next season (witch they will because Philbins not a good coach)
Tannenbaum has created many of the Jets issues with bloated contracts given to players like Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes, to name two, coupled with cap mismanagement that has left New York in a difficult plight heading into 2013. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...ential-gms-look-to-keep-tannenbaum-in-cap-job
The year Plax was here was Sanchez best year 26 tds 18 ints and 6 rushing tds,we were 8-5 that year and went on to lose three straight.I do agree about the Holmes contract witch is why we should stay away from Percy Harvin and use the money on another free agent WR
the sanchez deal was not bad no matter what you think of Mark. put that aside. we got worse every single year? 2005 we were 4-12 and he gets the job 2006 10-6- that's worse? 2007 w/ more injuries we go 4-12 again 2008 we go 9-7- worse? 2009 we go 9-7 and make title game- worse? 2010 11-5 and make title game w/ chance to win in 4th qtr- worse? 2011 we got worse 2012 we got worse he made some mistakes late, that happens. that doesn't mean you fire a guy or that he sucked. the cap problems were severely overblown, w/ cuts and restructuring she would have had a great cap situation again and made moves unlike the guy you hate in Idzik.
The real answer to the question is that the Jets were at or near the cap for 7 years with Tanny as GM and in all that time they didn't have a roster that was in the top 10 in the NFL. That's the problem. There were a few Jets teams that had a top 15 roster in that time frame but none that had anything like elite talent. Very good offensive lines was the closest the Jets got to the elite teams and those lines tended to develop holes out of nowhere from time to time.
it was well worth it, if he didn't perform could get cut w/o huge cap hit. the problem was not providing the talent around him which I think he would have had he stayed for 2013 and beyond. he just needed to get through the cap issues w/ some of the older, bloated deals.
Having Plax made us the best red zone team in the league that year,Braylon was good but they were kind of the same,Braylon went to the Seahawks and 49ers after leaving and did zero and he's been out of the league since. So getting rid of him wasn't a big deal to me
how did we make 3 postseasons, win the most postseason games under any regime, make the most title games, etc...? we must have had top 10 caliber talent to do so. we weren't elite but we had talent. the biggest issue was we didn't have the elite QB but how many teams do? and once they do they make the GM and coaches jobs easier.
That wouldn't be a waste Junc. Spending it on free loaders and actors fronting as football players would be though.
