I just dont see the hype for Marrone. I'd rather take a chance with a new first time HC then him in all honesty and thats gone against everything i've said this season. His offenses weren't any good in Buffalo. I didnt see the development of any offensive players under him either. Thats suppose to be his bread and butter, especially his O-Line. That's a huge red flag IMO
I keep hearing that "Mort said somewhere"....I assume that's Chris Mortenson of ESPN......was it on some ESPN show on TV?
I didn't see it online anywhere but not saying Mort didn't say it. The question is what spin do you not believe. Someone if not everyone has an agenda. This time it might be the Jets because they want Marrone but don't want a tampering charge. As far as tampering. What about Atlanta tampering with Rex. Wasn't Rex quoted in some article telling his assistants "next stop Atlanta" as he was leaving. How did he know so early right after getting fired. Maybe a phone call before the fact from Dimitroff or Pioli. Not unheard of.
Brian Bassett on twitter claiming that Quinn is the Jets favorite, and he cites a tweet from Mort report that Marrone is the backup, but there is nothing in the Mort report that says that
Don't be a dick, Francis. The guy has been respectful and helpful, more than I can say for a lot of our fellow Jets fans around here. That said, if ultra-conservative offense is Marrone's signature, we should be looking for other candidates.
Tampering is hard to prove because most hires involve some level of tampering, just not necessarily originating with the team. It's a fact of life that agents have many clients and that what one client does is often leaked to other clients before it becomes general knowledge. That's why tampering cases are so rarely brought and usually denied when they are brought. You can't punish a team unless they have blatantly gone over the line, given that the line is tiptoed over all the time.
NFL Insiders had a half hour segment on the coaching carousel today starting about 3:30. Since this was a couple of hours after these "Mortenson says Marrone is out" stories appeared, one would have expected him to at least hint at that; he didn't. Still talk about Marrone, also focused on Bowles, Quinn, Cable and Kubiak and Polian added that Frank Reich was in the mix. Polian also mentioned that the plan to hire the GM first works best. I don't know why Idzik wasn't let go a month ago to get the new guy on board and be ahead of the pack in the HC hunt.
Is ESPN really more accurate than a message board forum? I don't think we can be too sure about that.
I'll make it simple for you. You have never spoken to any potential head coaching candidate so there is no rational basis to your concern. You have no idea what type of organizational, motivational and strategic philosophies and abilities it takes to be a head coach, and have never spoken to any potential candidate to know whether they possess those organizational, motivational and strategic philosophies and abilities, so your opinions are baseless. Baseless opinions are irrational. Yet you assert them as if they are based in reason.
ESPN's @mortreport says Dan Quinn fav for #Jets. Our theory is Quinn *is* fav of #Jets, but snag is pairing w/GM. Marrone is the backstop." only thing I could find on this
The Bills owner pretty much thought that he had an extension agree with Maronne just hours before he announced that he was leaving. So no Ive never left a job that way and then cashed in on a 4 million dollar contract clause. That way shows a lack of caring in my opinion. And if it was told to him that he had the Jets or Falcons or wherever head coaching job locked up , where is it written that those situations are better than the one he left in Buffalo? Last I checked there were no positions available for teams that made the playoffs (yet).
