well the thought process is GM the Bears or stay put.

my question is why that thought process?

The most benign answer is that he is very happy in KC, but the Bears GM has long been his dream job.
That's a likely scenario, although i don't understand why he'd show all his cards by canceling the Jets interview. That kills any leverage, and is not the best biz move for a guy who will be a GM.

The paranoid answer is that he's heard what the Jets are planning, and wants no part of it at all.

    granted, it's likely the former..

The Bears have already said that they are going to hire a GM first and then hire the HC with the GM having input.

I'm sure these guys are aware that Woody will have no problem hiring a HC first and forcing him on any potential GM.

If I had a cushy job like these assistants do, I would go to the Bears also, they have a great history, their own stadium, a good qb in place, do we need to go on?

The Bears job is a heck of a lot more appealing than the jets.

why is the Bears job more appealing? neither of us have a QB but they have a ton of cap room invested in their bad QB. we have tons of cap room and some talent, they have some talent too but bad decision on QB makes that job less attractive.

Jay cutler is better than Geno, no matter how we slice it, the cap portion of his contract is not impossible to fix.

They have a wonderful legacy as a franchise, their own stadium.

He knows that the Bears are going to hire the GM first, and the GM will help to choose who the next HC is. I'm a jet fan and I know the cap room the jets have, and the talent they have. I still think the Bears are a better franchise than the Jets just based on being a fan of the game.

Just the fact that he turned the jets down, shows us that he could care less about the cap situation or the talent the jets have.

I'd rather have Geno and I don't like Geno. Cutler not only is bad but he's expensive and bad something Geno isn't.

Their legacy includes just 1 SB win just like us. they don't have another NFL team in their City to split the fans but they haven't exactly been a dominant team post George Halas.

better franchise and more appealing opening are 2 different things.

he turned down the Jets b/c he had a history w/ the Bears and wants the Bears job.

I don't see how this is a bad job opening at all more specifically for a general manager. Tons of cap space, a good young pass rush and a few pieces on offense to build around.

I think it becomes a bad job opening when Woody and his firm tell the general manager that Doug Marrone is automatically their coach and Woody once again forces a coach on our front office.

There's only one guy that has rejected us and only us, the rest are content with where they are. No need to panic it's not as bad as 2 years ago.

Agreed it is a stupid article.

Time to Panic: Everyone Is Rejecting the Jets

So, it's not really time to panic, even though it may seem like it at first glance. It is a good opportunity to use one of my favorite clips from The Simpsons, but it's clear that most of top guys for the position aren't really interested, for whatever reason. There are still a number of good options, such as Trent Kirchner, Scot McCloughlan, Rich Mueller, Mike Macagnan, etc. Let's hope they land one of those candidates.
