I am sure playing duke for the first time when duke was top 5 pushed that over the top but they get 30k+ almost every game.
Nope. 77 Times in their history. 7 of which were against... Villanova. http://www.orangehoops.org/CarrierDomeCrowds.htm
Interestingly enough the 2 times they hosted Carolina they were over 30K. they must have played 'Nova at least 30 times at the dome.
Well, it all goes back to what I said... The Draw. Villanova was irrelevant for most of the early 90's as well as the early 2000's when they transitioned from Lappas to Wright. I'm not sure Carolina would have drawn 30K if they played during the latter half of the Dogherty era.
The Heels were not good last year and were struggling big time when they went to SU so what draw was there really? when was Rutgers relevant?
Rutgers was never relevant. Carmello Anthony was. 33,071 March 9, 2003 No. 12 Syracuse vs. Rutgers The all-time attendance record had stood for 12 years, but it fell as 33,071 fans came out to see Carmelo Anthony's last game at the Carrier Dome in a Syracuse uniform. A month later, Anthony would polish off his one-year Syracuse career with a national championship in New Orleans. But on this day Anthony treated the Dome crowd to a 30-point, 14-rebound performance. It was the 18th double-double of the season for Anthony. Syracuse struggled with Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights led by as many as 10 points in the second half. Anthony hit two free throws with 5:36 left to give Syracuse a lead it would never give up. Syracuse downed Rutgers 83-74 to complete its first undefeated home season in Carrier Dome history.
why didn't they set records all year? there's not a person alive who thought SU was going to win the title at that moment in time.
Why wasn't every home game of last year's Yankees season completely selling out and going for multiples of face value on stubhub? Why was it only the last home game of last season?
you are comparing Derek Jeter to Carmelo Anthony? 81 home games to 15? Yankee prices compared to SU prices?
No, I am not comparing Carmello Anthony to Derek Jeter. What I am saying is that Carmello Anthony generated a sense of sentimentality among Syracuse Student and Alum in the same flavor that Derek Jeter generated among Yankees fans.
which hasn't happened here and never happens when you try to debate me but I have fun w/ it. You make me laugh.
Carolina blew one last night, they played awful most of the game but had a great shot to win and missed about 5-6 shots in the final minute and lost by 1. Frustrating as they were playing well entering this game. No time to pout with Louisville in town on Saturday.
Completely Demolished your argument by: 1) Clearly demonstrating that Villanova CAN draw a huge crowd, as they did so by drawing 30,000+ six times at the Carrier Dome. 2) Defeating your counter argument that if Rutgers can draw 30,000+ at the Carrier Dome, anyone can by highlighting it that it was Carmello Anthony's last game, which was the real reason for the crowd. These are facts. These are irrefutable. There used to be a time when arguing with you was fun. Now it's just pathetically easy.
