Time for some reasoned dialogue. I know this is The Post, but read what he has to say. http://nypost.com/2015/01/04/the-hires-that-prove-woody-johnson-finally-gets-it/ Other than Costello's beautiful ability to call out Manish's BS, what do you guys think?
there is no room for reasonable thinking around here. pitchforks for everyone! we've got narratives to slurp up and regurgitate!
Good article. Its spot on. Whoever the Jets bring in, they should get some time to perform and build out the team. There are no sure things and there is no standard blueprint for success.
I just can't stand this forum's attitude right now. We need a level-headed calm before the decisions, not criticism at every level of speculation. Though I understand not wanting to trust Woody or his consultants, right now is a time to be optimistic. Our team is going to forever change with this decision, hopefully for the better. Let's see if a new GM and coach can take advantage of the talent that we do have on this roster, and (of course), let's see if our owner can find the right GM and the right coach first to do just that. Plus, criticizing every potential GM or coach actually makes it harder for the Jets to find the right guy. Reactive fans and a meddling media are actually making it less likely that the Jets move in the right direction.
As long as Woody gets these two hires right, I don't care who says or writes what. After all these decades, I'm not optimistic due to historical reasons but at the end of the day, these are the Jets and the Jets belong to Woody Johnson lock, stock and barrel. What my or any beat writer's opinion might be doesn't matter at all. There's only ONE OPINION that counts.. That opinion belongs to Woody. Woody fucks this up, and he can't hide anymore behind anyone. Either way, the fog will lift fairly soon at One Jets Drive and we'll get whomever we get in whatever order Woody chooses. That's the reality of the situation for better or worse.
They should really look into kicking Mehta to the curb. That guy is a fuckin piece of shit nobody. He doesn't deserve the job he has. This will never happen, but I can only wish.
I'm just worried Woody is influenced by the media and by fan reactions, because neither group is really qualified to judge a GM or coaching decision. (I'm not saying Woody is qualified either, but still...) We can judge all we want after the fact and try to hold our new hires accountable, but dissuading Woody from interviewing or hiring anyone is just a bad call IMO.
I am not saying we should give Woody thee benefit of the doubt. But there have been other owners just as clueless about their teams that have gone on to have success.
Very interesting that Costello would come out and say: That really said so much about Mehta when another media member would come out and publicly attack him so harshly. One has to wonder if Manish's days are numbered. But then again Mehta is the go to source about the Jets for PFT and brings much national attention to the News. Sadly, I doubt the News cares what others so publicly think about Mehta.
The Mehta bashing was great. I don't recall hearing one reporter kill another but even the press is sick of it.
Lol its funny that people criticize Woody now, when most people here were like Woody needs to hire football guys. It seems like they will go after the GM first, but nothings for certain. IMO with the lack of great coaching candidates available right now, you gotta hire the GM first.
Great article. Very fair and accurate. The Jets haven't abandoned the process. As much as I dislike Woody Johnson, I will give the benefit of the doubt to whoever they end up hiring, at least in the beginning.
True about PFT and Mehta. PFT must love Mehta, together they have crafted the whole Jets bumbling circus narrative, they have a lot invested in it.
Of course they're doing anything they can to keep the Jets Circus alive even without Rex as it's ringleader.
Pro football talk ... Aka pro football rip off can suck my balls I didn't know mehta was their "go to" jets guy because I haven't visited that trash site for years but it makes perfect sense
Thank you for bringing the article to our attention. Well written and fair. Costello puts things in perspective. Unfortunately this will get limited interest and not much response from many of the fans in this forum, who prefer to run like an angry mob mostly based on innuendos from a two bit hack and a handful of butt hurt angry Buffalo fans. I sure hope we end up with the best GM and HC available. I have my preferences but that means Squat. The only guy that needs to get it right is Woody with help from the dream team. Unfortunately for us, the only sure thing is that no matter who is selected, the Daily Trash will twist the facts in magestical snake fashion and continue to spew its home bred venum against the Jets and the leadership, new or old. And many gullible fans will overreact to the news. And the cycle continues.
