With the premium of receivers, it was not worth trading up 5 spots when they could have stayed pat and took Mike Evans. Marrone had the right impression. Now the Bills don't have a first round pick.

Marrone still had 2 years left on his deal at the time he asked for an extension. If you believe that 6-10 and 9-7 should earn him another extension on top of the 2 remaining years then I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

By the way... if you were the owner of the Bills and reports came out that you gave Marrone another 4 year contract before he has proven himself, you'd be crucified by your fanbase and the media. That is virtually unprecedented.

So in terms of his own career and his coaches. What happens when they bring in their new football guru. He gets a year and then maybe he's fired. And if the team regresses what about his market value. Esp when it's pretty high right now. He's seen plenty of head coaches come and go esp with the Bills and have to go back to being Coordinators like Mike Malarkey. So if the reports are true snd they turned him down: he's not being greedy or unreasonable.

Yeah but there are no Sammy Watkins in this draft. I get what you meant but last season was a freak of nature for WR's and you have to strike while the iron is hot. Right now only Amari Cooper is slated to go top ten. After they dissect him he might drop out of the first round like Marquise Lee. Or some team will strike and try to get him earlier. Its a crap shoot either way but Watkins looks great as do Beckham.

Marrone earned 2 more years based on the improvement in record only because of new ownership. And the potential that a new front office would want to bring in their own coach, which is very possible. 9-7 is your best record after a decade of extreme mediocrity. Of course you guys won't give him the credit you say it's because of Schwartz. And btw Beckham was the best receiver in the draft last year and you could have had him for nothing (your own pick). The Jets wanted him but it would have been an expensive trade up. In retrospect now: I'd have done it.

    Because I believe in continuity.

I was hoping Marrone would fire Hackett, get an experienced OC, and then ball in 2015.

He's not a bad head coach. He's just not anything special.

    It was Schwartz.

But I do agree that it wasn't completely unreasonable for him to ask for an extension. I can see both sides.

Again you should hire Schwartz then. But buyer beware. Right now I'm watching his old team at halftime in the playoffs beating Dallas. His team with mostly the same players last year was 7-9 and that was one of his better years.

    I like Darren Waller.
    Better than Cooper IMO.

You keep saying that but it doesn't work that way. A good coordinator can win you games. It doesn't mean they'll make a good head coach.

Would have had to trade up for Evans as well but OBJ was there. Knowing the Bills they probably would have selected Ebron.

Sammy Watkins wasn't worth the trade up. Plenty of receivers had great potential, all the Bills had to do was stay on their pick. Plenty of receivers were projected to do very well at the next level.

You have to give the head coach credit or blame for the record. You act like he wasn't even there. The fact is: your D players were great your offense below mediocre.

Key word projected. Have you ever looked at an old Mel Kiper draft book a few years afterwords? Yeah they missed on their projections probably about 75%. So if you make that move up or down and it works out for your team you should be thankful. See Kyle Brady, Vernon Gholston, Kyle Wilson. Then you see how its worked out when Tannenbaum traded up to get Revis. How long has that been? 10 years and 2 GM's.

And he does get credit on the face of it. But if you're evaluating him for a job opening, you must look at the source of the majority of his wins.

If you don't think teams are questioning how he will do without Schwartz then I don't know want to tell you. I can almost guarantee it's a question at least passing through teams minds.

All of them were projected to do well at the next level, I was a huge Mike Evans / Jordan Matthews fan myself. Mel Kiper sucks balls as a scout - I'm not going by what he says. I'm going by the eye test. Watkins produced less than Beckham, Evans, and Benjamin all first round picks.

At the end of the day, the Bills trade up for Watkins was f'n stupid. History has shown, trading down results in better returns then trading up.
