Let me tell you what constitutes a nightmare for me...is they promote Schwartz to HC and bring in Trestman to run that offense. Beware....
If Marrone hadn't gone to Syracuse (where he didn't even have that much success) he wouldn't be the so called media favorite. His media alliances and the Syracuse grads have blown his profile way out of proportion.
Schwartz made the playoffs one time in five years with the Lions a team with a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. And his won-lost record was way under .500. The head coach is the bottom line when evaluating a season. You can't give the coordinator credit and not the head coach for a good year. Schwartz did a good job but it was Marrone's team.
The offense limited Buffalo while the defense carried them. Not sure how you can't give most of credit to the defensive guy. In Detroit there was no discipline, I'll give Marrone credit for that.
Most teams don't have an equal balance: offense or defense. The Bills defense dominated. Your offense was better than the Jets esp after Orton took over. Imo the head coach not the coordinators is the person most responsible for a team's won-lost record.
Marrone gets credit for hiring Schwartz. But that's about it. Marrone was in Buffalo in 2013 and 2014. Lets look at Marrone with Schwartz (2014) and without Schwartz (2013)... 3rd Down % 2013: 14th 2014: 1st Rush Defense 2013: 28th 2014: 10th Pass TD 2013: 20th 2014: 1st Points 2013: 20th 2014: 4th Yards 2013: 10th 2014: 4th Notice a difference? Marrone didn't change. He was the coach both years. Just the DC changed. Schwartz made that defense nasty. Marrone is an offense coach. Not defense. He had no say in the defense.
Well then hire Schwartz. Since you've totally diminished the role of the head coach. Imo Schwartz had more talent in Detroit than the Bills. And he didn't win.

Dude. No one is saying Schwartz is a good head coach. They're saying Schwartz is the reason why Buffalo won most games because of his DEFENSE. Not because of his head coaching skills.

Yes. Thought is that the Bills are going to release the offensive staff, because, well, they suck. And the defense is staying in Buffalo. So you get Marrone and the worst part of his staff, but leave the best part.
Marrone is such a bad head coach for hiring a coordinator to help his team win games. A real head coach would have went with a dip shit coordinator instead.
