I don't think either belongs in the first round.

Winston is just too immature. I wouldn't trust him with the keys to my Porsche (I don't actually own a Porsche or any other car) so why would I trust him with all that comes with being picked in the first round?

Mariota is a running QB and 2014 was the year when NFL defenses figured out how to stop running quarterbacks. The only one that has been decent is Wilson and he has also been successfully game-planned out a few games by the opponents, even though he has a much stronger arm than Mariota.

They should've done the same analysis on Winston's last year stats too to illustrate how his good year stacked up relative to this year having lost many of his most potent offensive teammates.

Can I ask a stupid question that has been bothering me lately? Everyone always talks about the systems that inflate a QB's numbers and how easy Mariota's system is compared to Winston and all that. I agree that all of this is true. I guess my question is why the hell are teams using pro style systems in college if these other systems work so much better in college?

I'm making a random guess here .... but would a pro style offense be an edge when trying to recruit the most elite high school QB or WR throughout the country?

Also the most likely thing I could think of. I can't come up with another explanation.

Mariota has good enough skills to play in the NFL. But he needs at least two years to learn the system. If he has a offense coordinator worth a Fuck and the same head coach .... he can adapt. But he won't be an All Pro.

Unbacked speculation is the basis of virtually every comment on virtually every thread. Such is the life of football fan forums....

If I knew something about football I would be sitting next to Terry and Howie on Sundays.

Put winston's heisman year vs Mariota's heisman year and things look way different. Honestly the biggest thing to me is Winston only Has ONE LOSS IN HIS CAREER. He's a WINNER. Add that with his pro-style play, no brainer Winston is the guy i'm taking. Winston has been cleared of almost all accusations, if we don't hear his name from now til the draft in a negative light, I think it's a no-brainer he's a top pick. The thing with Mariota is the kid just seems smart enough to not fail wherever he goes. Almost like a Russ Wilson, his smarts outweigh his talent IMO. These boys are going in the top of the 1st.
