so you agree with me? It makes more sense to say that a HC's long term success has more to do with their QBs than their style of coaching vs. the style of their predecessor..which doesn't make too much difference in the long term
Yesssssss!!!!!! In fact...let's take that new song "It's all about that Bass....no Treble" and apply it to what you JUST stated!!! "It's all about that QB...bout that QB no Head Coach........all about that QB...bout that QB...no Head Coach!" Yessssssssssss
He has head coaching experience but his record scares me. Only two winning seasons in both jobs. We're the two teams he coached really that bad? And Buffalo WE GET ITR7 You don't like him. But you guys don't like anybody.
The HC's relationship with the QB means everything. That's where the success comes in. Rodgers might not be Rodgers if not for McCarthy and his staff. Brees and Payton's offensive system, his aggressiveness play-calling suits Brees.
NP. But, I mean to be fair, you still make a good point. He was only 25-25. Marrone hasn't really done anything to write home about, despite a lot of his more intriguing attributes.
Slimjasi, I believe what Charles Barkley said. Fans don't know shit about anything. Sometimes intangibles and respect from your peers is more important than a coaches record. After Chip Kelly left Oregon, they immediately hired Mark Helfrich, the offensive coordinator -- and fans hit the roof! " He didn't even call the plays at Oregon," and "he'll change the offense" But his peers said he was the smartest football coach on the staff. And look how things turned out!
Buffalo has been shit since Kelly was QB. He has been there 2 years, 9-7 is a pretty good turn around. With a decent QB in the first 4 games, who knows. I'm not saying he's great, but he should be considered. I'm not saying to hire him, but we shouldn't rule him out because a couple here don't like him.
I see nothing funny about getting the shit end of a trade in any circumstance, let alone when it comes to head coaches.

You're exactly right Bellows. I'm saying that this hire is something you CANNOT RUSH under any circumstances. This has to be done right or this franchise is in the shitter for years to come. If the process is being circumvented for any reason, that undermines the entire process. If we're talking a HC on the level of say, a Parcells or a Harbaugh or some other legend? I get that. If its for a middling HC with a mediocre w/l record, it simply reeks of cronyism. It does not pass the smell test. Marrone is not Harbaugh. Marrone is Marrone, former HC of the NYB's.. So, if Casserly wants to be GM, then Woody needs to hire Casserly and then let Casserly hire his old pal Marrone. I'm not nearly as naive as Woody as I know full well that sometimes, its WHO you know and not WHAT you know that counts. Casserly as kingmaker just doesn't cut it for me considering he's no Polian by any stretch. He was hired to do a honest talent evaluation of viable candidates, not push his own people out front. Honest broker or he should have recused himself from this entire matter. If that headhunter firm chose Idzik over say, Tom Gamble, I would really have to examine that headhunter and given Idzik's results, I wouldn't let them evaluate people ever again. At least not on my dime. Thank God Woody recognized that this time and let Mo, Larry and Curly LTD go ruin someone else's franchise. Spruced up resumes sometimes mask deficiencies and fool employers. In Idzik's case, it was a hard lesson learned and would have made Ian Fleming proud. There was a movie with Tony Curtis years ago. I think the title was: "The Great Imposter". Regarding Revis, I think Woody let that get personal. Yeah, I believe Woody ordered his release and in spite of his denials, I think he prevented Revis's return. What Woody didn't expect was for Revis to sign with the Patriots and now is in the SB conversation. The WSS? Woody wasn't wily enough to pull that off. Stubborn to a fault too. He should have explored all other options instead of jumping in bed with the Giants. Maybe found a more effective team to get a deal done too as he was up against guys like Silver and Dolan. Compared to Woody, those guys might as well be Mafia. So what was the result? After 55 years of its existence, this team still does not have a stadium. That is just fckn pathetic. Yeah, Woody has his faults and it appears he's a slow learner. Maybe one day he'll get lucky. . Please remember that Owners usually die before the franchise gets sold. That means we have a long ways to go still with Woody Johnson cause he ain't sellin and he ain't dyin. For now, Woody is our Billionaire Blind Squirrel who hasn't found his acorn yet.
of course casserly is going to push the guys he knows, they are the ones he feels comfortable promoting. his name is on this too. someone asks you who you recommend to paint their house. do you say the guy whose van you saw at a house in the neighborhood or the guy who painted your house and you liked and will use again? but thats why there is wolf too. two consultants, two sets of eyes, two lines of contacts. keeps the cronyism in check. and they are still interviewing candidiates and have not handed morrone the job, what is there to be upset about yet? mo,larry and curly handed scheinder to seattle. looks like they nailed that one
Then why bother interviewing anybody except Charlie's old pals? Waste of time isn't it? Kinda like the faux qb competition we just went thru. If the fix is in? Fine but do it right. Hire Casserly as GM and then let Casserly hire someone he's "comfortable" with aka: crony. Being Charlie's buddy doesn't make you the best candidate but as far as the Jets go, just pray and hope Woody isn't that gullible. Wolf has been strangely quiet thru all of this. Not sure what his role is except maybe to provide cover just in case no other candidate comes up qualified enough for the Jets GM job except Casserly's pals or even old Charlie himself. Nothing would surprise me anymore. What I'm talking about is the appearance of a less than honest talent search just like the Qb competition that wasn't. Right now, there's enough red flags to put people on edge and considering this franchise's track record, its well warranted. There's no need to rush this. There is a need to really look at all qualified candidates and get this hire right. Hiring Marrone before hiring a GM is just repeating the same stupidity that got us here in the first place. As far as MLC LTD hiring Scheinder for Seattle? Is that their only success or did Seattle get a helluva lot luckier than the Jets? That would be typical Jets luck though wouldn't it..Seattle gets Scheinder and we get Idzik.
