    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/...a-not-as-good-winston-not-as-bad-as-you-think

Great article here pointing out how very little of what Mariota did in the game last night could actually translate to the NFL while Winston was consistently attempting and making NFL throws (even in defeat). Mariota has a great skillset and may be able to translate that to an NFL system, but he is a big project that will require patience as he learns. Winston is more of a traditional pocket passer prospect with his own red flags but more likely to be able to step in and run an NFL offense.

From a Jets perspective, the odds that Mariota would come in and give a better QB season in his rookie season than Geno would in year 3 are probably very low. Winston I would give a better chance. Of course we know Geno does not "deserve" another season, it's just the reality that fans clamoring for the top QB prospects would need to accept. Of course picking at #6 the decision may be out of our hands as both Mariota and Winston could be gone.

Smartest move he could make right now. Polish his game next year and see what happens. He's not a lock top 10 pick in the draft coming up. He might not be a lock in the 1st round.

It's a moot point. Mariota will be gone before we pick. Winston will probably be gone too if he declares. The one thing I love about Mariota is his poise and his ability to make quick decisions. He's in a great system, but against top level athletes last night he showed me a lot about executing under pressure. That's something most NFL QB's struggle with.

I still think both will be good pros and have long careers.

Agreed. That video of him yelling at Jimbo Fisher and getting threatened with being benched killed his chances of a high draft position. He is toxic right now and needs to mature as a player and as a man. Jets would be idiots to pick this guy.

My point on the last sentence about the Jets is although he is from a skills standpoint more NFL ready that any other QB in 2015, if he was on the Jets next season the NY press would eat him alive.

While I agree Winston's skills translate better I have problems with how long he holds the ball. Conner Cook appears to be more pro-ready with more upside than both Mariota and Winston. Cook makes quick decisions with a quick release which translates very well to the NFL. Winston makes slow decisions and holds the ball far to long. Getting rid of the ball quickly IMO s the most important trait for a QB. I like Mariota's intangibles but your right there is a lot of risk there. Hopefully Cook will change his mind and come out and there will be a choice of three.

Actually if Winston decides to stay Connor Cook could get that mid-first round draft he was looking for earlier in the year. Agreed on the quick release.

He only holds on to the ball that long because his receivers never get open.

I have slowly been coming around in regards to Jameis. I was completely against drafting him just a few months ago, but I'm not so sure now.

I still think Mariota has more potential, and will be the better pro, but I can see why some think Jameis is the best QB prospect.

The game last night sucked from a draft evaluation standpoint. Very difficult to make conclusions or change minds based on the current pros/cons of each.

Mariota looked good but was operating with wide open receivers and open holes..and an offensive style that's more collegiate. which doesn't really change anything.
Winston had some nice throws/reads & had his teammates let him down with turnovers but at the same time made some turnovers himself.. which doesn't really change anything.

What we needed was a close, cleaner game with better defenses and the two trading late drives in efforts to win

I think a lot of teams will be turned off by Winston's history. I could definitely see him sliding in the draft.

If I'd told you this time last year that Bridgewater would slide to the bottom of the 1st round what would you have said? Bridgewater was more NFL ready than Winston is.

Mariota might not be great and there's no sure thing with any prospect...but his smarts and his attitude and his reputation as a student of the game gives him more of a potential to be great than Jameis. Not even sure how that can be debated

Hmm good point but that's cuz teams like the Jets are dumb. there's a reason the same teams never have good qbs.

    I can see this.

    I can't see this.

In the next few months I think he goes through rigorous agency prep, measures/times/lifts very well, and all of this melts away enough to land him in the top-10 picks at least.
