I'm wary of how Mariota will translate to the pro game, but if we got Kelly, I'd be all on board with getting Mariota. The issue is, Tampa Bay trading that pick. I can't see them doing it.
no way. any scenario for the 1st overall pick would have to include this year's first. likely much more. Tampa tanked for the no.1 for a reason: Marcus Mariota
To get Mariota it would take 2 first rounders...This year and next year. But if it can lead to Chip and Gamble...Lets just say I'd take that gamble
His transition to the pro game would go a lot smoother and faster if we got Kelly. I'd only want to trade up for Marioa if we got Kelly, otherwise, no.
We have a lot of cap space and what not. Also, our schedule next year is among the easiest in the league. We can definitely make the improvements to be a very good team next season.
I agree. Even if we overpay, it's no guarantee they'll trade out of the pick. However, if we got Gamble/Kelly, I'd take the risk and try to overpay to get Mariota. Keep in mind, Mariota isn't Andrew Luck, he still has question marks.
We're going to have to trade for him, the Eagles would be stupid to let Kelly go, without any compensation.
I wouldn't speak with such certainty, especially when it comes to teams drafting qbs. Mariota isn't Andrew Luck, so anything can happen. The price tag would be enormous to trade up to get Mariota, especially if Kelly were to come here. Tampa would know how much Kelly would want Mariota and ask an absurd amount of picks in order to move up. I would imagine 2 to 3 1st round picks.
Agree. And even if they were, it's not worth trading up. Teams get raped to move into the top 3. Let's just get the best player we can at 6.
If we get Chip Kelly somehow we need for Mariotta to say he will not play for any team other than the Jets, ala Eli in 2004. He'll have to be willing to sit out a year, but I doubt any team would actually try and strong arm a #1 overall pick like that.
