I am not anti-Marrone. I think he's a decent coach but these are the dangers to want to clean house. we go from a top HC to a mediocre one and this is supposed to excite us?

Nobody is going to make a decision until the San Francisco, Atlanta and Chicago vacancies are filled.

Rex isn't a top HC. He was well on his way towards becoming one.

Well, he became the most highly sought after head coach seconds after being fired from a 4-12 team. That tells you that the Jets screwed up in letting him go. Most of the NFL considers him a top coach.

2 teams are interviewing Ryan. Gase, Quinn those guys are getting interviews with multiple teams as well. I don't see how he's highly coveted.

    From NFL.com:
"Rex Ryan might be the most popular coaching candidate on the market. The former Jets coach has interviews lined up with multiple teams."

That doesn't mean shit - saying that he MIGHT be the most popular doesn't mean he's the best coach available. That quote is as opinionated as they come. Other coaches are getting multiple interviews as well.

It's not like 10 teams have set up interviews with him, it's 2. It's been 4 days. Hardly makes him "the most highly sought after" head coach. Pretty sure Dan Quinn has like 4 interviews actually scheduled.

Well the fact that he's getting any head coaching interviews at all says a lot....I mean most of the Rex haters on here thought he would only be considered as a DC by other teams...after 4 non-playoff seasons and a 4-12 season with the Jets, hardly a resume builder lol, and he has 2 head coaching interviews lined up seconds after being fired, that tells us that at least 2 other teams think that our owner and/or GM were responsible for the erosion of talent on this team that led to an excellent head coach getting fired....there's no logical way to dispute that, no matter how much you may hate Rex.

I'm surprised there's no intrest in Mike Smith for our coach,he has a 66-46 record and only two losing seasons out of 7 but not a lot of success in the playoffs just one win out of 4 appearances

The fact that he got interviews is great, but so have some pretty bad candidates. Your reaction was indicating that it was an indisputable fact that Rex was objectively the most sought after coach in the NFL. That's just not the case and you're being called out on it. That's all.

Untrue, the assistant GMs of the Vikings and Ravens have already decided to turn down the GM job with us.

You reminded me that Rex had more playoff wins than Mike Smith. And Smith had Matt Ryan at QB, while Rex was saddled with Mark Sanchez. The more we discuss it, the worse this looks for the Jets! :(

I haven't heard, what's the bidding war up to?
We should hold of a bit, then grab Belichek when Kraft dumps him for Rex.

if he was as mediocre as some of you are saying he wouldn't get a sniff, not even be talked about. He'd go into TV and maybe be a DC down the road. the fact that numerous teams are interested in him as their HC after 4 non playoff seasons in a row culminating w/ a 4-12 season should tell us everything we need to know about how he is perceived around the league.

eh- they are just interviewing him...he's just another candidate in a long list of candidates. Doesn't really mean anything. Besides, if I was a betting man I think he does end up on TV. Besides San Fran would be the ones making a huge mistake if they did hire him.

You make your comments about the Jets & Marrone, but that's actually an organization that would be downgrading from a Top HC to a mediocre at best one by their own accord IF they hired Rex. They won't though.

Either way Rex is finally gone. That ship has sailed. This thread is about a new coaching candidate.

how many interviews did Rich Kotite get? Bruce Coslet? how about a guy like Jim Fassell? Joe Walton? Al Groh? teams don't just interview to interview unless it is satisfying the Rooney rule.

Harbuagh was the best HC in the league in my opinion so it will be a downgrade but not a significant one. they go from great to really, really good. we go from really, really good to mediocre at best(as of now, he could get better). Rex proved he can lead teams to the brink of the SB, Marrone hasn't even been able to get his team in playoff contention in week 17 and their D was as good as ours in '09 and '10 and they had as much talent on O as we did in 2009.

It's funny all the arguments of fans saying this will continue the Jets mediocrity, it's a downgrade, etc yet the same people wanted to keep a coach who was (26-38) the last 4 seasons. Mind blowing.

Rex in 2010 had a much better team than Marrone had this year. That is NO contest.

The team Rex had in 2009 though is actually very comparable to the one Marrone had this year top to bottom. Both teams finished 9-7 by the way.

And Marrone helped build & develop that team up from years of irrelevance whereas Rex rode the coattails of the development from coaches before him before driving the team into the ground after those first 2 years.

I am not the biggest rah, rah Marrone guy but he's at least a lateral move from Rex. I certainly hope he's better though.
