I don't get the Marrone love, he's done nothing of any value. I'd rather take a gamble on someone with no HC experience than sign a guy that is destined for continued mediocrity.

There are no guaranteed slam dunks. Some guys like Lane Kiffin and maybe Eric are great assistants but terrible head coaches because they don't have the people or management or leadership skills. To me so far Marrone is the best candidate. Outside of Rex he has the most experience as a head coach.

That's it? Experience as a head coach? I'd suggest that the Jets need to set their sights a bit higher, like maybe success as a head coach. I'd also like to see some indication that the players in the league tend to view the guy as someone they want to play for. And he should inspire confidence in everyone connected with the team, not just a consultant or two.

Mostly, I'd like the Jets to follow through with the plan to get a general manager in place first and let him choose the coach. That's why I wanted Idzik out a month ago so his replacement would have been on board by now.

Marrone is coming off of a good season without a franchise Qb and with a lot of key injuries. If the new Bills owners really wanted him he'd have stayed. This Marrone bashing is even more idiotic than the Idzik hatred. He's the best qualified candidate for the job.

I'm willing to give Marrone a chance let him prove himself one way or the other.

A good season, no QB and key injuries...hmmm...sounds familiar, but it's not the resume that says "hire me!"

This is not "Marrone bashing", this is a search for answers. You categorize him as the best qualified candidate - surely there's more that led to your decision?

Very little; and Rex is gone. Why the hurry to install a guy with such an uninspiring resume? What do you see that I don't?

No inside info or expertise on my part. He has head coaching experience and had a good year. I wouldn't interview a lot of guys. He's getting good grades from people I sometimes listen to. If they hire Quinn etc thats ok too.

Something about saying goodbye to the team by a mass text message just rubs me the wrong way,How about a phone call?

Remember Rex Ryan - he had more than one good year and he also had a team of guys that would scale a wall for him. I don't hear that about Marrone. I'd interview a hundred coaches if that's what it takes to find the best fit. And I definitely want the GM in place first; that should have been done weeks ago.

Sure but 53 phone calls? Then the assistant staff and front office too. You're lookin at like 100 phone calls. Lol, is that necessary? Just release a statement and that's it.

Belifaggot wrote it on a goddam napkin at the introductory press conference.

LOL. This is like listening to a bunch of teenage girls argue over the next American idol.
We get no say in this people. Do you think Woody started this poll for our opinions?

Everyone loved that Woody hired football people to pick the next GM, everyone said these guys knew football and the best course to take moving forward. Now that they are doing their due diligence of interviewing, yes interviewing, potential GM's and HC's, you're upset at the choices?
It's been 4 days, let the situation play out a little.
And who said you don't fire your shit coach before finding anyone better to replace them? That's just foolishness. You fire your shit coach because he's a shit coach. There's always someone better, we just have to find him. Someone who will try harder, someone who doesn't make the same mistakes over and over, someone who will grow into the job.

LMAO dude, seriously?? The Bills went 9-7 because of Schwartz. An offensive coach is exactly what Marrone was, offensive!! I'm not trying to stir up shit with any Jet fans, hell I felt bad for you guys after this year. Look up the Bills' offensive stats in the last 4-5 games and ask yourself the only question you can ask, "This is the guy we want for a HC"??

And now you have this tidbit from Cimini:

Still the old boy network in play here. So much for this "advisory team". What is Wolf's opinion of all this? Casserly evidently has an agenda as he's pushing HIS people out front instead of actually trying to find the BEST people. I'm really wondering if Woody is being dealt a bad hand due to his naivete regarding personnel matters. I was happy about Woody reaching out to "football people" but I am worried now that he's just getting people with their own agendas.

Nothing about the Marrone situation passes the smell test so far. I really hope we have truly "honest brokers" advising Woody. I dunno...

Can we stop with the he's an offense guy and his offense sucks? It's a non-argument. Blame the OC if the offense sucks. Blame the DC if the defense sucks. Blame the HC if either or both of those things are true AND you're not winning games. The head coach's record is what matters. With that said, I don't see marrone as some great coach we need to get, but it's more because I don't think he's necessarily done more with less like I want in a good HC. It's possible he could, but he hasn't proven that yet. He slots right in with every other candidate being interviewed, and I hope the sensationalist media either talking about how awful he is or vaulting him to the top of the list like he's Belichick gets their heads out of their ass.

The Bills had some impressive wins this year but 2 of their 9 wins came against us (a 4 win team) and 1 was against a week 17 Patriots, who were resting a number of their starters. If we had a half-way decent team we split those games and if they played the Pats earlier in the season that's an all but guaranteed loss and we're looking at a 7 win team and a completely different discussion.

Hell, they were in a playoff hunt until they lost to the Raiders in week 16. The RAIDERS. A team who had only won 2 games prior to that. I would expect half the people on this board to be able to motivate a team so close to a playoff spot playing one of the worst teams in the league enough to get a win...why couldn't Marrone do it? That doesn't seem like a good sign to me.

I would agree he has the most experience and if we hire him I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and see if he has what it takes but given how average he's been his entire career, his failure with a young QB in EJ, and some of the questions about his ability to handle the media pressure in Buffalo, let alone the New York Jets, I have a lot of concerns regarding his ability to make this team a winning franchise. I'd rather take a bit of a gamble on an up-and-coming candidate and hopefully get someone who can make some real changes and strides for this team.
