For a guy who just got canned this board seems to have entirely too much love for Rex.

So let's see how he stacks up.

Who was the best Coach we have had since Parcells?

Having Belichick on the poll is BS.

Well Rex's regular season winning percentage is exactly the same as Mangini -- Double the wins and losses in double the seasons
Rex playoffs 2 out of 6 years, Mangini 1 out of 3 years. AFCCG's give Edge to Rex

Al Groh - Incomplete -- did not want to coach here

However -- Herm in 5 years made the playoffs in 3 out of 5 to Rex's 2 out of 6.
    Herm had a better reg season winning % -- .487 to .479
Total records including playoffs Herm 41-44 Rex - 50-52
Herm won a divison title, Rex did not.
Herm had some playoff success (Big win against Indy, 2004 win at SD, close loss to Pit) - We know about Rex's two runs

So if you want to base it off of actual results Herm was the better coach during his Jets tenure, unless you like horseshoes and give more weight to close but no cigar.
One can argue the team that Rex had his first 2 years were better talent wise than Herm had in 2004 - 2006.
Herm may not have been as good as an X's and O's guy as Rex, and he had some serious HC deficiencies but not as many as Rex.

It is close between Rex and Herm, but Herm gets the edge.

    Rex. Herm second.

But all of them had significant flaws.

Rex had the talent stripped from his team but that still doesn't excuse the consistent mistakes and dumb decisions.

Herm was inconsistent from year to year with similar talent.

Rex was,Rex made the Jets relevant its hard to belive we were once taken very seriously but we were his first 3 seasons with us.We were 8-5 in his third Season before losing 3 straight and we haven't been the same since.I give Rex the nod as best coach since Parcells for a lot of reasons on and off the field

I'll take 11-5 wild card over a BS division title at 9-7. Rex is the best coach we have had since Parcells by a wide margin. Imagine if he had had Pennington or Favre at QB.

Rex Ryan has clearly been the best HC since Parcells, which is why there is so much love for the guy. We just threw away the best coach we've had in years, and years, for an unproven commodity that most surely has never accomplished shit in this league.

    Fan-fucking-tastic.

See my post above to show that it is not CLEAR.
I don't fault you for thinking Rex is better than Herm because the results are very similar, but please don't be ignorant and make it sound like a slam dunk.

For me 3 winning seasons in 5 (60%) is better than 2 winning seasons in 6 ( 33%).

Two AFC championship games and a division rd win on the road against the Patriots that is easily one of the biggest wins in franchise history. Easily Rex.

I do think Mangini could have been great if given more time. I think if he's given a second chance at being a HC he could be very successful.

You do mean - third, right? He already had his second in Cleveland - two 5-11 seasons.
I do think Mangini is a good talent evaluator.

    It is a slam dunk.
It is absolutely a slam dunk.

Your argument reeks of bias. You can throw up stats all day long, what were the variables within those seasons though?

What kind of games did Herm win in the playoffs, compared to Rex?

It's a very easy win for Rex. Herm never came close to the success that Rex had in terms of what he brought to this team, and how far he got in the playoffs.

Herm will be remembered for one thing and one thing only...

"You play to win the game."

    Big fucking deal.

Mangini got a raw deal with both teams he was a HC for. You clearly do not factor in the variables of anything. More of a stat guy I see.. To each their own I guess.

I would take Mangini over all of those other guys. I REALLY believe we fired him too early......I think Mangini will get another shot and Rex will get another shot and Mangini will prove to be the better coach

41 - 0 against Peyton Manning and the Colts (If beating Peyton in the playoffs means nothing, I guess shutting him out means nothing also, so I won't put much stock in Ryan beating the Colts in the playoffs)

Beating San Diego in San Diego ( If this means shit, than so does Ryan's win in SD)
Let's be real here -- he was 2 Doug Brien misses in Pitt to going as far as Ryan in the playoffs.
Those misses are not on the coach.

    I'll go with Al Groh.

I think Groh could have been a great coach for us if he was given the chance.

    Records (regular season)

    Groh 9-7
    Herm 39-41
    Mangini 23-25
    Ryan 46-50

Al Groh had a kick ass draft, especially finding Coles in round three. Almost made the playoffs despite losing Keyshawn Johnson for cap reasons. He even had a winning record despite following Parcells unlike his successors with the Giants and Patriots.

It seems that the others succeeded when we borrowed against the cap to give them a boost but couldn't compete with average talent. Also, Herm and Mangini tossed away valuable players switching our defense from a 3-4 to a 4-3 (Herm even fed the Patriots the defensive players that got them their first SB win). Ryan and Edwards both neglected OL to build their defenses. Mangini did better with personnel moves but was snake bit when Favre got hurt.

To Herms credit, he ran a tight ship where penalties and turnovers were limited. The man could not manage a clock to save his life though.

Wouldn't post Belichick as he only was there for one day though. Just IMHO though!

I always forget about that stint. Yes third. Meant another chance because he was doing the tv thing and now is back coaching again.
