The 2000 Ravens got Lewis a head coaching job. And to a lesser extent Jack del Rio. Rex wasn't hired until 8 years after that season. The 08 Ravens run to the AFC title game was more of a factor in the Jets hiring him then the 00 team was. I'm not saying he didn't come from a good situation, obviously coaches from bad situations aren't being offered head coaching jobs for the most part, but these coordinators available right now just aren't up to par. I mean how much input do we really think Adam Gase has with Denvers offense or how much of a factor is Quinn on Seattle's D that is filled with stars. If we're going the coordinator route Id rather someone a little more established like Dirk Koetter or Gary Kubiak.
He'd be an awesome color commentator. If he's smart he would try to be the next John Madden.. that's an easy, lucrative life. He's very marketable like Madden was and he is funny. Maybe ESPN will put him on MNF and stuff something in Gruden's mouth so we don't have to listen to him talk
My worst fear is that the Giants fire Perry Fewell and Rex will be convinced to stay in NY and take the job, and the Giants win another SB next season. That would be more than I could stand.
I haven't forgot, it's fresh in my memory from this season. Down by a score with 3 minutes to go and the ball but you punt it away, only to have the Lions run out the clock... That's bad coaching.
I wont say that Rex doesnt have his short comings. Clock management was not one of his strong points. But he trusted his defense much more then he trusted his offense. And in that game specifically what would make you think that the offense was going to convert on a 4th down?
What gave us a better chance at winning -- trying to convert when you have possession or not having the ball at all to score? That was the play where I gave up on Rex and changed my Rex avatar. It was a terrible call not to go for it compounded by the fact that Detroit ran the ball on the strength of his D and got the first in three plays and ended the game.
Yeah it was a 4th down from our 25 yard line. I guess in hindsight you can look back and say it was a bad move but we had the timeouts and time on the clock to get the ball back if the D made the stop. They didnt. Loss still falls on the ineffectiveness of the offense though.
