You were there when he raped someone? Winston matures, he's going to make a franchise very happy because the guy can play the game and he can play it at a very high level. He's worth the shot if he's there at 6.
Don't fall into this trap and let Geno Smith gas your head up, the guy isn't a starting QB in this league, we start him nxt yr more than likely we'll be picking high in 2016 - which to me isn't a bad thing considering the QBs available in 2016 as well.
I disagree. I think it's mostly in the system: having the right players to surround a guy with, having continuity year to year, having stability. Sure, there are special players. But the majority of those players have stayed in one system their entire careers (Brady). Yes, there are exceptions, Jug Head Manning for one. But, to me, it's about familiarity and you get that when you have a quality OL, quality receivers and the system and the players stay relatively the same.
I've read stories. And, quite frankly, the "she moaned her consent" is something that disqualifies me from rooting for him. And, while I can't say what you should or shouldn't like, I can see where playing in NYC with that baggage is not something I would wish on the Jets or him.
Yes i have to agree Cutler would be an improvement, But from watching him play. He never seemed to have control of the offense and always seemed pissed at the world or was pouting. If he got hit a few times and a sack or two the game was over. We need a leader and a QB who is going to rally the team not someone who is just going to leave the field and drop his head on the bench.
you've read stories, but nothing has been confirmed. Winston has been distracted all year and his team hasn't lost. The guy can flat out play, and runs the pro-style offense. Surely if Big Ben were on this team you would be rooting for him no?
Actually, A LOT has been confirmed. Not the least of which was that the police virtually ignored, covered up, and whitewashed it. But I am impressed that his team hasn't lost while he has carried around this burden [sarcasm].
As for Cousins the jury is still out. He came in and played ok but he also made some bad decisions throwing in the secondary. I did read if RGIII is going to start next year he wants out.
Dude is still playing so you can go ahead and play good cop bad cop all you want, if the guy is the real deal at QB then the Jets should look at the film and make the determination plain and simple. The man knows how to play the game and the Jets need a QB that can run the pro-style offense with a good FOOTBALL IQ. Winston may very well mature over time and become a model citizen, but I think our #1 concern is winning football games.
That's what all these QBs offer. They come in, offer a change of pace, but once the film is in, they get exploited. But you gotta bring in someone I suppose...
He's still playing because he's on a Div 1 top-tier football team. if it were you or me, admittedly I'm more of a wishbone QB, we'd be in jail right now. and winning football games may be your #1 concern, but living with myself is mine.
Yeah I was overvaluing the team and coaching but you're undervaluing it. Just look at how Alex Smith has changed throughout his career. Or even Foles/Sanchez. A career backup can become a competent game manager (albeit not a game changer) with the right coaching staff. Likewise, a terrible coaching staff at the start of a rookie's career can hold him back tremendously.
We aren't football stars with particular privileges so to compare your situation to his, it won't work. I don't like Winston the person, but the football player? Now that's a different story. The kid has got some talent, if we don't get him I won't be disappointed though.
He is too good to let go...scrambles like a Flutie and throws like a Brady. BB not an idiot. Saw him today on NFL rewind against Bills and he looked amazing. Idzik let him go, of course. I predict we face him down the road and NE continues to win ....another Jet crash and burn decision on a potential Franchise QB. Yes, you are right he is too expensive now but came cheaper last Draft. We stuck with Geno OMG !!!!!!!
I have to agree with most of what you've said. My first instinct/impression of this guy is "no way" based on these collective concerns, but I'm trying to keep as open a mind as possible before absolutely deciding I wouldn't want him on the Jets. Given all that comes with Winston, playing in NYC (close enough, anyway) has to be a big concern too with the media and nightlife/setting unlike any other. And not for nothing, but even though the guy appears to be a great QB prospect on the field, he did have a pretty underwhelming TD:INT ratio for a potential top 2/5/10 pick - just something to consider. As of now, I'm not a fan of him and wouldn't want him as the Jets QB, but we'll learn more in these next few months. Whoever drafts him had better do some really good research into what kind of guy he is and what kind of guy he might be as an NFL QB.
I like football but I have my limits, I refuse to root for the Jets if they draft a rapist and thief like Winston. He will be a disaster here and he's clearly very morally deficient, he'll be in trouble constantly.
