http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/12090676/new-york-jets-fire-john-idzik-rex-ryan-monday Looks like it is going down quickly. The right move, for many many reasons. I like the decisive-ness if true, there was zero need to let this play out beyond tomorrow.
We didn't really piss away two years. We were in cap hell and had lack of draft picks prior to hiring Idzik. Now, we're going to have a lot of cap space, and a high draft pick to work with next year.
Well Idzik pretty much pissed away nearly every draft pick he took anyways. High draft pick to work with isn't a ringing endorsement, I could find 10 guys on the street to make the Jets a 4 win team.
Who wants to take the early bet that wherever Rex ends up he'll have more wins next season then the Jets win.
Unfortunately the decision to force Rex on a GM and maintain the "win now" mantra with certain moves cost us 2 seasons, BUT at least we found out quickly how awful Idzik was and could move on before 2 wasted years became 5 wasted years. I think this franchise is attractive going forward, good draft picks in upcoming draft, good cap flexibility, young talent on both sides of the ball, and probably a little fanbase patience since the signal for the rebuild has been given
Good luck Rex, thanks for being a very good coach and for having that personality. I hope you take the Atlanta job and have a great career there...Idzik can go fuck off.
No one should take this bet...It most likely is guaranteed if he goes to a team with a very good offense and he takes a job overhauling defense and what not. Be it if its the Falcons or Bears
Thank you Rex, but it was time for a change. It also says that Woody plans to change other personnel, hopefully that means Bradway. Hire the GM first, then let him pick his HC. At this point, you might as well can Marty also. Then let the HC pick his OC. Hopefully Dunbar gets bumped up to DC. Very ideal scenario for a new GM, tons of cap and a top 6 draft pick. Interesting times ahead.
I agree that in most cases, two years is way too early. However when you look at these guys he's drafted, do you really see any chance of high quality out of any of them besides Sheldon.
I still like Milliner and Mcdougal if they can stay healthy (huge question mark there, I know). I think Pryor should be moved to SS permanently, and then he'll be fine. I like Amaro at TE for the future. The backup OLB IK Enemk looks to be a decent player. These are just a few players from the past two drafts that I like.
Let's just hope we pick the right GM this time. I still think firing Idzik after only two seasons as GM is a bit rough, but I get why it's likely to happen.
I think Dee Milliner will be a good CB. I think Jace Amaro is going to be a good possession TE and by that I mean a 70-80 catch guy who moves the chains, which is something the Jets haven't had in a long time. I expect one of the OL to work out although exactly who it is isn't clear. It's possible two of them will work out because Dozier has a shot also. Calvin Pryor is the wildcard. I don't really know what to expect out of him right now.
Idzik picks I feel like will make impacts for us going forward Richardson Aboushi Pryor Amaro Evans Milliner McDougle Enemkpali Williams- UDFA Dozier Plus Ivory Decker Giacomini so all in all not bad but he like most before him couldn't fix the QB/Offense problem
